Seems like everyone is going to super singles, I was wondering how they work on a tanker truck especially on the trailer since I'm starting to see this more and more. Somehow the idea of hauling 8500 gallons of fiery death gets even scarier with those on the trailer. Is it true that if one goes down it can turn you over, that would be different and I hope I die from the wreck before I go up in flames.

I've had 3 blow out and never lost control or even a rim....The last one went at 65mph just under gross, wasn't even sure I lost one until it shredded and appeared in my mirror, I did hear it though...I have to believe, from my limited experience, that loss of control is due to a bad decision of the driver once they have a blowout...

My trailer is currently equipped with super singles. They aren't too bad. Just check your tire pressure and inspect for wear regularly.

I drive curvy 2 lane rural roads all the time and havent any problems yet. Knock on wood.

I still have my original set I bought 5 1/2 yrs ago & 320,000 miles. They will need to be replaced for this winter, but will have at least another 30K on them by then.

If the front goes and takes out the back, then yes, you can bet that tanker is going over. But I have seen many with blown out SS tires, just none were on a tanker, always a van trailer.

i saw a super single blow out yesterday. the axle was on the ground. leaving the driver no way to limp to a shop for a tire repair.

Are you sure something else didn't break? It should have been sitting on the rim first.

That is another problem with SS tires, if it blows out, you can count on replacing the rim as well if you are loaded. Every tank we have with SS that have had a blow out (twice with me pulling it) needed the rim replaced. Just a poor design I thing. All you save is about 100 lbs on each wheel but loose all the saftey and piece of mind IMHO!!

Our new Pete's have them for weight savings or so I'm told to offset the heavy PACCAR motor..

The tank I'm pulling now has them I'm not really noticing much difference versus duals..

I also agree with the above posts and blow outs, had one let go on a covered wagon I was pulling back in the mid 90's I sat on the shoulder of an off ramp for hours waiting for a replacement....

I hope tire shops stock them now because back then it sure didn't seem they did.. :-o

Does your truck have them too or just the trailer ? Bythe way, nice rig you drive, how do you like the paccar motor ? Back to the subject of super singles there is a tanker company in my city that runs supers on half of their fleet. A driver told me ina safety meeting a big wheel said, The duals go to the rookies, experianced drivers get the super singles, she also said that supers have better traction in snow, doubt that and if you have to replace the wheel also not much of a savings in moey or time. A tire place up here said they sometimes drive 5 hours to replace a super single tire because lots of places still do not stock them, like Winston Salem to Myrtle Beach for instance last year. I like duals, if one blows i can still go, but not once I get into tankers with hazzards like fluel. What do you haul in your tanker ?
