It was a preloaded trailer out of my home terminal. I waited at home until they called to tell me it was ready. I stopped at the Loves in Ga at exit 9. The plant I went to was a big paper mill in Queen City Tx.

    6/13/13

I am loading in the morning in La Porte Tx with a load heading to Fair Lawn NJ. It doesn't deliver until Tuesday morning. If I get loaded in a reasonable amount of time and can run 4-500 miles Friday I plan to stop in Marion Va at the company hotel Saturday and grab a 34 hour reset. My wife will drive up and join me and we will explore the mountains around there on Sunday. I should still be able to head out Monday and easily get within 2 hours of the plant for my 8 AM appointment. It sure beats getting to NJ Sunday afternoon and resetting there in a truck stop.

Well a 6 hour load time yesterday combined with a tire problem today put a stop to my plans to have my wife join me at the hotel. I didn't quite make it to Marion and the hotel I am in now is a little farther than she wants to drive. I will still get my 34 in by Monday at 7 AM and I am only about 680 miles away from my Tuesday 8 AM delivery.

I did get a call from dispatch while waiting for the lab loading. He was going to Via me through the High Point yard paying me for 60 out of route miles so I could be home for Fathers day. I wouldn't have made it there until Sunday had I gone that route. That would have left me only 17 hours on my 70 Monday morning without picking up any more until midnight Wednesday. NJ is the last place I want to be bumping my 70. You can't park just anywhere up there. Plus this way I make the layover pay.

Sounds like this is Superior looking out for one of their drivers who is a DAD! They didn't have to do this, right? It costs them more to pay you out of route miles than if you were to continue on your original dispatch, doesn't it? Pretty cool and kudos to Superior if they were concerned that you be home for Fathers Day!

Sorry to hear about your wife having cancer, Rob! I will add your family to my prayer list, who I ask God's intervention for regularly.

    wsyrob Thanks this.

It was my home terminal dispatcher who called. He thought he might actually need me to do something else and was maxamizing his driving force. It actually will cost Superior more money for me to stay out but I will have a full 70 to run next week to make them money. The hotel is about $140 and I will get paid $147 in layover pay verses 60 out of route miles and no layover pay because I am home.

The PITA factor for those extra 60 miles was huge though. Atlanta and Charlotte traffic, then either I-95 through DC and Baltimore or 220 back up to I-81 verses I-59 from I-10 and I-81 all the way up. More money and less hassle for me this way.

    Twicebit and scythe08 Thank this.

Had a nice break at a Super 8 hotel at exit 8 on I-81 in Va Saturday and Sunday and reset my hours. Ran 530 miles up to the Loves on I-78 in Pa on Monday. That left me about 140 miles from the plant. It was a customer unload that took about 3 hours on Tuesday. I was tankwashed over to Keasby where I sat for about 17 hours picking up 3 hours of layover pay. Wed morning I loaded 30 miles away in Bayonne NJ with a load heading to Greensboro. Delivered it this morning and am off for a few days. Got back to the house about 2:30PM. I told dispatch I didn't want to go back out before Sunday and would prefer Monday. Not the best week miles wise but none of my layover and load hours were on this weeks check so that should make up for it.

    edit
Got a dedicated N Chicago dry bulk load that will add about 600 miles to the check. Looking pretty good now. I will head out at 0 dark 30 Sunday morning. Appointment time is 5 AM in N Chicago on Monday then head right back. Should be home Tuesday morning.

Rob what is Superior/Carry's idle policy. Not sure if you had posted this but I don't remember.

Idle as much as you need to. Turn the truck off when you are not in it. They don't hassle you about it at all.

The web site is down. I'm a student, do you know if they take new drivers? The owner of the school I'm going says they do. Also if you have any other info would be appreciated.

Yes they do from certain schools. Call the terminal closest to you. I started 5 years ago out of school. Here is the most recent thread from a guy who started out of school with them.
