"System" is code for the loads that don't pay enough for the truck to go out deliver and come back empty. Most companies try to string these loads together to make $$$. You bounce around and use tank washes ( or other prewashed trailers) to stay loaded as much as possible .....
A dedicated run the shipper wants that trailer right back to reload............Out +back mt
Hope I didn't jack on your thread.........

System actually pays a company driver better when its running good because its all loaded miles at .46 vs empty at .38. It has more potential to be a pain in the butt though with pump unloads and hard to find customers. -

2/11-2/17
Its been a good week. I just checked into the company hotel in Sulphur La. Its one of the nicer ones on direct bill. The driver handbook said Microtel but that one had changed ownership and looked a little sketchy. I called dispatch and they pointed me at the Wingate across the street. Huge room, flat-screen, fridge, microwave and lots of restaurants nearby.
Monday started with a dedicated load out to Iowa City and back to High Point. I have had weeks where this is all that I do. Its pretty gravy. You pull an empty out there and drop/hook to one full of scope mouthwash and run that back to Browns Summit. It delivered Thursday at 8 AM. I ran 550-600 miles each day and camped out in Wytheville Va Wednesday night.
Thursday they had me deliver that load then bobtail to the terminal where a loaded trailer was waiting for me heading to Mobile Al delivering in a window friday from 8-13:00. On the way there I got a call from dispatch in Axis Al asking me If I could run a load out to DeRidder La this weekend. I really like it when they call and ask. It makes you feel like a team mate rather than a subordinate.
They had me drop my load on the Axis yard Friday morning for a local driver to deliver. I grabbed an empty and ran 250 miles back north to stage a few miles away from Cottonton Al where this load originated. I have been to this plant several times but always delivering but never loading. It took a while and a trip to the wrong gate to locate the rack. This was an interesting load. You accompany the loader to the top of the tank, open the dome, tie down the loading bar and measure the liquid telling him when to stop. He has no idea how much the product weighs so the strapping chart on the side of the tank is worthless. Overloading the tank is on you and I was told it would be a long wait if they had to take some off. They also time it and load so many tanks they know when its full. They are basically covering their A. I didn't have the hours to take a chance so I figured it at the weight of water knowing oil weighs less and had the loader stop a couple of minutes early. Wound up with 42,500 lbs which was just fine with me. I don't get paid by the pound.
I ran a little over 400 miles down to Hammond La and shut down with about 3 hours left on my 11. My original plan was to run to the Petro on 10 west of Lafayette. Traffic was so crazy I got fed up and shut down shortly after dark. That proved to be a great move the next morning with very light traffic over the Miss bridge.
I woke up Sunday with 7.5 hours on my 70. I ran it on up to the plant and proceeded to get lost a couple of times. If you ever go to Mead Medvesco in DeRidder there is only one way into the plant that isn't truck restricted. That is off of La 27. If you come in on 171 drive north of the plant and come back down 27. I got back down to the tank wash around 13:00 Sunday with 1.5 hours left on my 70. I don't pick up any hours until midnight Monday. Hopefully they won't load me until mid morning Tuesday so i can fully enjoy this hotel room.Attached Files:

2/18
Just got my dispatch for next week. Picking up a preloaded trailer on the Sulphur yard heading to South Gate, Ca delivering Friday 8 AM. Its about 1700 miles so should be an easy 3 day trip. I plan to sleep in and enjoy every minute in this hotel. Looks like its going to be a while before I hit the house again. It will be nice having an extra days worth of hours to run should they decide to send me up to Sacramento again. This product delivers about 4 miles from LA Tank Wash.
