Some of mine include:
Every time before i go to take off, i have to check my 5th wheel pull. Even if i just checked it a minute ago and can't remember the result.
Someone pulled mine once a long time ago and i caught it before i took off. Since then, i have to check.
When i get fuel it has to be an even gallon amount. x.000g. When i get DEF it has to finish with a total even $ amount.
I never set the cruise control at 66 because thats the devil's number.
What are some of yours?

Once in a while there is a massive don't do (Whatever it might be..) this or that. I'll discard the problem and stop to get coffee.
A hour later I take off down the road, and lo and behold there was a massive wreck.
If the feeling is intense, I'll build a nest in the sleeper and call it for the rest of the day.akfisher, Dino soar, Lumper Humper and 2 others Thank this. -
I double sometimes triple check if I set the brakes. Never had an incident just I sometimes roll with life on automatic and forget to remember if I set them or not. Haven’t had one time where when I double checked and they weren’t set but you never know sometimes you get something stressing you and you’ll forget ####.

my old habits were to:
1) fill ALL the tanks to the very top
2) carry an extra gallon of oil, anti-freeze-washer fluid (and in later years, DEF fluid)
3) always did pre and post trip inspections
4) always pulled against the 5th wheel
5) never sounded the air horn for anyone just for fun
6) changed the wiper blades every 2 or 3 months, no matter if they were never used in that time frame
7) always kept as many lights as i could reach, clean in the winter months at each stop.
8) always kept the inside as clean as possible, outside was dependent on time i had to wash myself or run through a truck wash, or when the company sent onsite washing companies..
9) always threw away old work gloves each month and got new ones
10) always carried 5 gal pail of either kitty litter or speedi-dri for traction, in the winter -
Whatever direction I’m traveling in, if I’m gonna stop at a truck stop....it has to be on the same side. I.E....going eastbound the truckstop has to be on eastbound side.....

I refuse to pull tanker #13. Just won't do it.

Sometimes when i fuel i forget if i put the passanger side tank cap back on even if i just screwed it on 2 seconss ago. Like others have said , sometimes we get stuck in automatic mode. Maybe our mind drifts or were trying to plan our day and forget something like putting tank cap on. As a flatbedder i make sure my winch bar is always sticking out the side of the trailer if i set it on the deck so i can see it if i take off without putting it away..

I always check and make sure the shop door is open as high as it will go before I fire up. lol
-
I always jostle the shift lever before grabbing for the key.
Always stop on a 5 when fueling (105, 115, 125)
Every time I stop, I check every tie-down
Use tire pressure gauge on all tractor tires
All of my securement has to be as symmetrical as possible. I've actually completely resecured an entire trailer because left didn't match right.Last edited: Aug 14, 2019

1) fill all the tanks to the very top.
2) I ALWAYS check to make sure 5th wheel is still locked in.
3) everyone I get ready to leave a customer location or wherever I always take a pee break even if it's a 2 second squirt.
4) I always have a bag of oke-doke popcorn (blue bag) next to me when I drive.Lumper Humper, FlaSwampRat, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.
