Our "Proof of Delivery" that the customer signs, states very clearly at the bottom "Consignee Responsible for Cleaning Trailer". If they refuse, depending on the customer and the amount of debris, if the driver cleans it, the price ranges from FREE to $300 or more. Years back. driver arrived at a customer with a load of some type of hop or barley, that was liquid in giant carboys, it leaked all over the container. Customer had no clue how to clean it, steamship line said it had to be cleaned, I spent 4 hours at the truck wash while they hosed it out, 8 times. They billed us $500 for cleaning, we billed them $750 plus driver time.

I hauled a load of crane mats to Houston. They unloaded me directly to their waiting work trucks, then I pulled to the next stop where they swept the flatbed.
See, three examples of how it should be.jamespmack Thanks this. -

If your employee or safety person wants to try to treat me like a second class citizen your crap is getting scattered 53Ft down the side of my trailer cause I ain't coming back anyhow and that just ain't how you treat people. Cause you didn't get any last night and you hate your life isn't my problem.
I always sweep my own trailer cause I'm to do #### picky and if your product ain't on my trailer I ain't gonna be responsible for you.
If you keep leaving them the option to leave a mess you will always be cleaning up someone else's mess. Pretty sure most of ya went to grandma's and grandpa's house you cleaned up your mess....they was trying to teach you something....
I'm old and grumpy so take this for what it is....jamespmack, Tug Toy, MACK E-6 and 4 others Thank this. -
Better not haul UPS loads, You drop trailer in dock and come back 4 hours later and it's got pallets shrink wrap, cardboard pieces , tape everything back there. I once asked a chicken receiver to wash out the blood and guts from my trailer and was laughed of the premises plum to the highway !
cke Thanks this. -
Those are more great reasons I don't swing doors. (which is also why I posted this in the FLATBED forum)
I know where the chicken leftovers would have ended up if I owned that trailer...
My final argument: The guy on the dock is getting paid. When I'm at the receiver, I'm not getting paid. The guy getting paid should do the work, especially since it's their darn product. If anything, it should be considered a courtesy and basic manners to clean up after yourself.
I think it may be time to add a trailer cleaning fee to the list of accessorials. I would encourage you door swingers to encourage change in the industry by following suit.Speed_Drums and Aamcotrans Thank this. -

I actually used to haul for a place with a van that would sweep and roll up straps.
It wasnt the Company policy. But the young man in shipping policy. He would tell you to take a nap. Nice people, if he was short handed, I'd do it. It had to be swept every load. To bad a guy like him isn't every place. I even loaded my own load sometimes he was short staffed.
I report to duty with a clean trailer. Any by products of your cheap packaging you own. Give me a place to put it, or I will find one. My trailer will be clean for the next appt.
