Mid September. I understand that I won't be able to make it most holidays and family events with this career. I'm single and honestly think I'd prefer staying out months at a time. The only problem is this is extremely important to my brother so I promised I'd be there. My worries with the temp job idea would be that some companies I've talked to require a refresher course if you wait over 45 days to start a driving job after graduation.
You could be cutting it close. You need I think now 160 hours. That could take 3 weeks depending on your mentor and the freight. If you can I would seriously think about waiting until after the wedding if possible. Anything could happen. Also keep this in mind, whatever terminal that you finish your training is close is where you will test out. That could be California or up in the Northwest and then you will need to get loads to get back in time.
I'll have to be wary of it all if I do decide to risk it. I would like to be able to drive before the wedding. Just curious, what are Swift's trucks governed at? I've seen between 60-68.
Even if it is in writing and your 1200 miles away the morning of the wedding not much you can do about it

My mentors truck did well over 70. I know I took it up to 72 when passing several times, and he would cruise about 75 in the 80 zones. My 2015 prostar is set at 64. I'm company dedicated. Your recruiter has no control over anything... So don't even sweat your issues or needs at this point. The driver development team you will deal with during training and after orientation are the folks that will take care of you. If your professional, courteous, and PATIENT.... They will work to make sure you are taken care of. After all the negative I read, it is ridiculous how great this company has been to me. I'm on a dedicated account, run the five state region, busy full clock sun night thru thrus, three day weekends at home. Almost new truck. It's not without it's BS.... but really what job is??
No one can promise you to be home on a certain date. There are too many variables. No one can promise what you will make while in training or as a driver. There are too many variables. Considering home time, you have to put the home time request in a certain number of days in advance and you have to be out at least 12 days. If you go solo '~2 weeks' before the wedding you may not get there in time. You are timing things very tightly, and that is never a good idea where trucking is concerned. Too many variables... Training pay with Swift is hourly now, as you know. You have to drive to earn. We got a video today on the Qualcom (Yes, I actually watch them!). One thing mentioned was that many new drivers (those in training with a mentor) were quitting after 1 or 2 weeks because they were not making enough money because the mentor would not let them drive enough. They were asking mentors to please let the students get their 50 hours in ASAP and not waste so much time making the students watch them drive. (After 50 hours of drive time you can go to team status.)
Oh yes, forgot about money. I did my 200 in 27 days. We took one three day at home, and did rolling 34's ... I think twice? By day four we were team, and ran balls to the wall. 10 on, 10 off. For the 34, I took my 10 rolling... We would then shut down get a shower and a good meal. A good non rolling sleep.... I would then drive and he finished his 34. We were never without a load, covered all four corners of the US twice. The point is we stayed busy, drove as much as possible, I knocked it out as soon as possible. I took home about $330 each week with standard deductions. Again this I would not sweat.. Get in, get it done, then go to work.... That's when you can worry about money and control your pay check.
