shoot this thread isnt about how much a #### truck is or is worth... its an informational thread to help some people out and just doesnt apply to just swift but most all the companies out there today. quit picking it apart. take it at face value and nothin more...
if you wanna know what swift trucks were goin for 18 years ago i will tell you!! i was an employee at swift b4 i was a driver started in the truck purchasing side, to trailer mechanic, to truck mechanic, to special projects with ole mikey out in the special projects shop, to driver.... i started at the old original terminal over off 51st ave. watched and helped the newer terminal be built on 75th..... even special projects for jerrys personal lake boat to toy haulers to you name it.... ive been there done that with swift and know just about all there is to know about the place and even met jerrys father the original owner of swift... jerry is a great guy he just has a lot of riff raff to work through after taking his company back from an almost hostile takeover from that d bag he trusted enough to allow run the place while he tried to enjoy his retirement....
i can to this day take my prime stickered truck pull up on the front lawn and go have lunch with the ole man.. and dont think it hasnt happened.... and wont again...
now for you fools that want to read into it to much just go away and leave it alone and take this thread as some one trying to help another and quit knockin it and reading into it to much...
if you have nothing to add to the thread that has to do with the thread then leave the thread alone and come help me troll up the threads in the off topic forum.. -
I think teaching new drivers has alot to do with the new drivers themselves. Some people are never going to be truck drivers. That being said ive also drove with two different guys, not at Swift, one at CRE, and one at Prime, that were supposed to be trainers that were two of the worst drivers ( and human beings ) on this planet. I went to school at CRE, the guy im refering to was a L/O they have you run with as an advanced trainer, for 3 weeks after 3 weeks with a regular trainer. Prime said when I signed with them I didnt have enough experience ( 9 months ) so I had go with trainer for three weeks. This guy may have been the biggest dirt bag ive ever encountered. Not to mention a horrible driver.
My point is that if you are weak candidate to be a professional driver and get a mentor/ trainer like one of the ones I described you're in real trouble.
If your strong you'll survive look back and go " Wow wtf was that all about God? "
Im happy at Swift.
CRE was ok, but you must run illegal or starve. Prime was satanic.
Ive also noticed it is wise to choose a company whose terminal is near your home. If a company is based in Adak Alaska you can bet that truck will find its way there, definately something to keep in mind when choosing a trucking company to work for.
It might be coincidence, but it seems like clean people, with clean clean trucks are better drivers.scottied67 Thanks this. -
For the most part, I agree on the "Clean truck" theory. I know I wanted to keep my rig clean (exterior) but my DM wouldn't pay for a proffessional wash. I even asked to take it home for a 34 to wash it myself and she wouldn't allow that. The Sumner and Troutdale terminals don't have wash stations. Note: this was my 2nd DM and Swift was pinching pennies at the time (more so than usual). After the 3rd time of being told "no", I pretty much gave up. Looking back, I probably should have just paid for it and turned in a reimbursement reciept. Sumner had some really dirty rigs there for awhile.
Now, the interior was clean with sparkling windows and mirrors... -
Im refering to the interior for the most part. Outside gonna dirty, especially if a company truck. I have one of the oldest trucks in the fleet, but the inside is nice and clean, and the outside gets washed once in awhile. This is a night and day contrast to the drivers I was refering too. The one guy would get lot lizards while I was in T/S -- Id come out to truck and it would reak like nasty ****y. I just cant tell you how fun it was. ( NOT !!! )

Injun,
Do you train? How hard is it to get a female trainer? Should I even worry about it? -
I do not train or mentor or whatever. There isn't enough desert to hide bodies in for those times my cabin fever gets the best of me. Female trainers can be very difficult to get and if you insist on one, you may end up waiting a while. I trained with a man. We had an agreement from the outset that it was a business arrangement. Sure, there was some joking around, but neither of us ever saw so much as a bare foot of the other. I say trust your gut and do what feels right. We're women. We know when someone is being genuinely nice and when someone just wants something.
dixiedeadlight, The Challenger and Lady K Thank this. -
Swift wants ~If unemployed for more then 60 days, bring 2 notarized letters stating why.~I quit my last job at a gas station for multiple reasons. I gave 2 weeks notice and left on good terms. (I try not to burn my bridges either!) But I can guarantee that I will not be able to get this item from them. Any advice?
