Lots are MEANT TO's not many Mentors

Meant to show you how do it , meant to tell you how to do it , meant to have a shower , meant to clean up the truck , meant to turn in paper work.

Okay, here's the deal. After allowing my feelings to get hurt by some condescending and assumptive comments, I had to step away and think about it for a couple of days. I do hope you'll note I said I allowed it. That's my issue.

However: In none of these Swift threads have I ever tried to blow sunshine up anyone's arse. When someone asks a straight question about Swift, I give a straight answer from my perspective with no sugar coating or company BS. I tell it how it's working for me.

In this thread and in others, I have been either mentioned by name or lumped in with people who probably need the "talking to" and basically told I am worth less because of a business deal I made with Swift that took more than two months to put together and had to be reviewed by several "higher ups" for approval. The difference is this: I was asked to return to Swift. Their timing was good because things were not going as positive as I'd hoped at my previous company. Therefore, there was a little more negotiation for me than simply showing up and signing a pre-printed (write name here) form. My negotiations are none of anyone else's business and I refuse to discuss it any further.

Calling me a "wannabe" "glorified company driver" "less than O/O" or whatever other insult you can think of only puts me in the position of examining my associations. It does not make me want to turn in my truck and go buy one on the open market. If that worked for you, that's grand. I'm happy for ya. But I've seen far too many failures going that route because of the same poor business choices that happen with starry-eyed lease operators who think because they have that new KW or Pete that they have the trucking industry by the short ones. I know better than that. And you, as an open market O/O should too.

Further, my associations within Swift...those whose phone numbers I keep handy...are folks who completed their leases and now own their trucks outright. Some did it through mentoring, others did not. Some even have three or more trucks all purchased through Swift's leasing program and paid in full, running drivers in them and still leased on to Swift. It's called good business sense and knowing how to work the skewed system to be more favorable to the operator. These are the folks I am in contact with for business advice.

I am truly sorry some very nice people were hurt by the contracts they signed. Sometimes, even when someone does their absolute best and follows "the rules" it still comes back and bites them. I understand that. It happened to me. However, I will not attack them now or in the future. I will refuse to rub anyone's nose in my successes nor will I expect anyone to feel sorry for me for my failures.

I am leaving this thread to those with cookie-cutter contracts and others who assume they know everything about them...on both sides of the fence. And I honestly hope I can continue a positive discourse with some really neat folks on these forums.

i stopped caring what ANYBODY thought on the internet a long time ago...long before i joined this site. Its rather pathetic people spend so much time worrying about what happens in this "2nd world bull shatner".

Injun, i totally agree with ya. My biggest problem is being told "you'll fail" by someone who isnt even a truck driver, or even remotely knows the business. Heck, maybe never even turned a paying mile in an 18 wheeler.

Dude, you are too funny. If you truly did not care what people think of you, it would not bother you in the least if they say 'you'll fail' lol.

But to bring it back to the Lease Purchase topic, remember the forum here in general is very anti L/P. L/O's are almost afraid to admit their status such that they might be ridiculed, belittled, chastised, mocked, and tsk tsked at. I commend DickJones for being so forthright and honest with his endeavor from the very beginning and keeping us up to date with his progress. So many other posts on here about people coming into the industry and their travails through various trucking schools, company orientations and day to day activities with their mentor through team and solo status, it's nice to read about the next level in the experience of being a truck driver.

Here is the deal tho injun. I have never seen you post or reply like a know it all, runny, snot nosed kid. If you make me mad I hope you have a bad chritsmas. Or when someone gives decent experienced based advice you don't act like a little kid that had his cookie taken away from him and was made to stand in the corner. When posters act like an idiot they usually get treated like one.

Then, sir, I suggest you do indeed have major anger and anxiety issues. Perhaps a touch of manic depression as well. Some observations: (I will paraphrase [by the way this is fun lol])

    • This is their last chance or I will bounce the keys off my DM's head and quit
    • I will tell you what the truck starts like a champ!
    • They won't perform warranty work because they won't get paid
    • They will only do warrant work so they will be paid
    • They sold me a tire when my truck would not start-- for $300!
    • I don't know where the solenoid is
    • I have been trucking for 32 years
    • I don't care what you think
    • I care what you think-- have a terrible Christmas!
    • I like to obey all company rules and regulations
    • I like to run 72 miles an hour downhill in a company truck and put my own seals on the empty trailer against company policy
    • I will have $10,000 in my maintenance account by the end of the year
    • My maintenance account is at $1800, one more foul up and I'm busted -- Mid December (end of year)

    Trucking Popeye Thanks this.
