Moosetek,
Does swift use e-logs or paper logs? -
There is some with e logs i am told--for the most part--they still on paper logs but are going to e logs in future. They say sometime this year they will be fully equipped with e logs.

So I got a pre-plan for when I come off my home time. 1800 miles into MS, delivering on Wednesday. Nice gig, and hopefully I can get the trip scanned in in time to get it on that next paycheck (or I will have a $0 check for that week).
But it sure is nice to have a good load planned out before I finish my home time. -

15000 drivers, and half of them will be back flipping burgers within a year. Mean while swift keeps getting paid.
-
That's a nice way to come off hometime! -
i agree with 113% turnover... but is that swift's fault... trucking isn't for everyone... and if they can't hack it they should be back flipping burgersInjun Thanks this. -
Our O/P, while entitled to his opinion and in giving it, did not attack any specific person, needs to take into account the fact it is difficult to guage Swift or any other company when he really does not have much to go by other than his brief stint as a student.
Swift has moved students off trainers' trucks. Not because of minor personality conflicts, but because of serious problems. If the student makes it clear to the Driver Services contact, every attempt will be made to solve the problem. This has been my experience. See my thread in the Swift forum "New Folks, Listen Up!" No problem can be solved if it is not known about. This is the first I've heard about issues with the lodging in Decatur. Also, up til now, I hadn't seen much from our O/P indicating there was a problem with the mentor. That's not saying it didn't exist. That's saying he didn't make it known.
Other posters are correct. Trucking is not for everyone. But I'm not going to arrogantly say, "Go flip burgers." I will ask whether this student passed his road test, whether he got his own truck, whether he expressed his concerns to anyone and what he has done to improve his own situation.
When someone cites a 113% turnover rate, I'm not exactly sure what that indicates. I speak to Swift drivers every day who have been with the company for 10, 12, 15, even 30 years. Sure, there are things they would like to see changed. But in return, I'd like to see them do something other than the bare minimum requirements. Pride and cooperation go both ways. I'd like to see more of our drivers place trailers in the shop for needed repairs, sweep them out (or at least remove the trash) and refrain from throwing garbage, cigarette butts and pee all over the terminal lots. Maybe if we show an effort, we might get results in return. Just sayin.
