I must be one of the few that drove for Swift for 1 or more yrs ( 3 in my case ) and have not much bad to say about them. Its a job and in the industry there are no perfect ones. you put up with crud no matter who you drive for. For every driver that says his company/carrier sucks and is the worst on the road is one that is quite happy with them. It all boils down to what suits you and what you want to do and is the reason you should ask tons of questions before you sign on and be very clear about what you want out of a company. There are ones that will keep you out for 4 weeks at a time and others that will get you home every night. Never sign on with one if the other is what you are looking for. Its pretty much that simple.

Why didn't you just call your fm and tell him/her you were thinking of leaving and ask for a raise. If they said no you could put in your 2 weeks and that would be that. No reason to get hostile about it.

I think the driver should make the change to CR England. I'm sure he would be much happier there

I hope that 9 cents per mile is worth the extra $150 a month you'll now have to shell out to Swift to pay off the remainder of your contract. (Once you leave you have to pay $300/month instead of $150.)

Or did you forget that it takes 13 months to pay off your contract with them? Had you stayed 7 more months you would have only paid half the contract and Swift would've paid the other half. Now you have to pay $2100 over the next 7 months instead of only $1050.

Here's hoping Werner gets you 417 miles per week MORE than you were getting with Swift or you won't even break even.

And here's also hoping that Werner is willing to hire you without requiring your schooling records - because Swift won't release those until your loan is paid off.

Did you ever take the time to sit down and TALK with your DM about getting more miles? Or did you just jump to another company?

You just highlighted a common point running through several threads in a clear manner. Before a driver gets all in a twist and quits a job he/she needs to sit down, take a deep breath and pull out a calculator and run the numbers. He/she also needs to think of everything else that is going into the job change to see if it is financially sound. I've left jobs for a lesser paying one because I decided that the other benefits were worth it. Maybe getting away from Swift was worth a few thousand to this guy. For hanging on a couple of more months I would not say it was but I'm not there. However, I hope he is not running his 401k with thinking like this.

there are good and bad things with every company. i think the most inportin thing is your driver manager. one person could say that one place is great and the next person could say no! that place sucks. the thing is they both could be right.
thouse of that are getting there start in this buz. we have to work for the swifts of this buz. but everyone has to start someware right?
i have been with swift for 18 Mo and its not that bad. could it be better? yes everthing could!
the swift i know you never sit unless you are in a area with no loads but even then you will not sit long my dm will put me on a MT trailer move to get me some place good.
the pay yes for the first month it is .25. but it does no have to be that way. my first week i did 2800 miles a was 100% on time they moved me to Costco and gave me a .09 raise! did that for a year. now i am over the road all 48 still make .34 but i get a .06 bounus on all miles paid every 3 mo. so that puts me @ .40 a mile i have a 2013 Prostare condo with 5000 miles on it! i ave 2600 miles a week could get more but i only stay out 12 days at a time
i thought about moving on but no one has offer anything better then i have now.
one last point Swift has a great CSR score i get the green light 95% of the time and have never been in the barn!
so you all can bash swift all you want. i am happy i pick them to start out and could be here awile

I started with Swift at .185/mile. Ran hard, though and got good experience with them

I have been with Swift on and off since 2003. Left twice for greener grass and always ended up returning. Swift has always treated me good and I have a great DM who won't let me sit to long. I get the miles I want, always get home time when requested. When I'm in a low load area I sit no more then 1 day, they have dead headed me upto 1000 miles to an area heavy with loads. As a solo driver I average 2800 miles a week, when I have a student on the truck I run 4500-5000 a week.
