Basically it's up to the shop personnel. But consider this, 20,000 trucks with 100% turnover and new mattresses every new hire coming on board. That's lots $$$ spent for mattresses. However, there are drivers that use bedding that's clean and the mattress is actually pretty clean ! Now do you demand the same when you stay at Motel 6 ? I think not. A box of donuts and a cup of coffee to the shop mgr will work wonders. Have fun ! ! !:happy7::notworthy:

There are some really jerk responses here.

I work at Swift and have had several trucks.
New trucks will have a new lower mattress, and the driver can get an upper mattress upon request if he has an authorized rider.
Used trucks usually have the old mattress when you get it, but the driver can request a new mattress at any time.

I have never had any problem replacing the mattresses. There are no questions asked, they just pull it out for you.

Rider insurance costs about $64 for a 6 month period. I believe you can also get a 1 year policy.
6 months is the minimum however.

I have my daughters with me during the summer, one at a time. I'm pretty sure I can not have them during the winter months, but I don't know if that would apply to an adult rider. You would have to ask your DM.

And if you have an authorized rider the mattress will not be a problem.

It could be they were out of the right size and had to give that to you.
Use it until you get to a different shop and ask them for a new, correct, one.

Which shop was that, by the way?

You beat me to the punch Moosetek. I used to work for Swift and never had a problem getting a new mattress for a new truck. You're correct about the passenger insurance, and there isn't a problem having a rider in the winter. Just make sure you renew the insurance when it expires--it was supposed to renew automatically from what they told me, but I always had to renew it myself.

A lot of it depends on where you pick up the truck. Many terminals clean them very well.
Phoenix and Memphis usually do a good job.
Some other terminals may not do much at all. Just turn and burn, when they should just be burned.

I picked up a ProStar at the W. Virginia terminal.
It was infested with stink bugs, and the experience with that truck got worse from there.
