Fair enough they're looking out for their own,but animal control could give the owner a chance and alittle time to find a good home for Sophie. The owner should have new the laws before hand. Maybe he did know the laws but disreguarded them and now and innocent dog is going to get put to sleep.

Some dogs LIVE for that ride in the truck. I had a 100 pound mutt riding shotgun with me in my daycab for 5 years, and when things changed and he had to stay home, he would try to trick me into taking him along with me. I'd let him out in the morning while I pretripped the truck, and he'd plop down right next to the truck and would NOT go back to the house. In the truck, he was GREAT! Paid better attention than most DRIVERS. He'd see a rough rail crossing coming and hunker down on the floor. He'd bark at people who cut in too close or were driving too slow. At the fuel stops, he had my back. He'd head over to a grassy area to take care of his business while I fueled...but if anyone approached me, he'd be making his way back to see that I wasn't in any danger. When I'd hang up the pumps, he was there waiting to climb back up so I could go in and pay. And boy did he ever HATE cops! Dern near took the nose off an AR hwy patrol trooper when the trooper made the mistake of jumping up onto the passenger side step to talk to me through the open window. Trooper wanted to search my cab, but was content to stand on the other side of the yellow line and peer over my shoulder as I stood at the door keeping the 100 pound, teeth bearing, snarling, barking, growling, every-hair-on-its-back-standing-on-end, cop-hating dog from jumping out and tearing him limb from limb. I've never seen the dog that ticked off, but it was for a good reason, so he got a treat.

Anyway, leaving him at home was probably one of the cruelest things I've ever done to him...he LOVED being "cooped up in a rolling walk-in closet"...except it was smaller than that.

Here's something to ponder. You're quick to say he was an irresponsible dog owner but having a few dogs in my time they're far from stupid. They can work a snap on a chain to unhook it and with enough tries get some door knobs turned. I've seen both many times. They're curious and will wander and check the neighborhood out. I have a zero tolerance for mean dogs. I've got about the same for kids that aren't worth a crap. How many here have kids that have gotten into trouble? How many chances should they get? Where's the parental/personal responsibility there? How about if your kids get one shot they screw up again they're done end of story. I'd guarantee we'd have a much better society and a lower population to boot. You guys shrug your shoulders on a dog being put down that didn't bother anyone, I feel the same when some idiot person, kid, future thug gets dropped in their tracks for doing something they shouldn't of. The difference is the person knows better the dog doesn't. If the dog is aggressive or attacks that's a different story.
I see far more misbehaving kids than dogs and yet no one says anything about responsibility there. It doesn't take a village to raise a child it takes a parent that's worth a crap.
I've got a golden retriever pup which you don't see many or any mean goldens. She's hyper right now but we're working on training her. I'm sure she'll go out of my yard at some point as do the neighbors dogs into mine. She's happy and thinks everyone's her friend so I'm glad a lot of you guys aren't in my neighborhood.

I feel terrible for Sophie, who did nothing wrong and never hurt anybody, but will be put to death through no fault of her own. I feel contempt for the owner, who thought he was exempt from the law.

The animal did nothing wrong and its not right to punish it for all you agree is the drivers misdoing. Lives matter whether its human or an animal. When you have a pet, it becomes part of the family. You wouldn't allow it to be put down for no reason. This dog never attacked anyone. There is right and wrong then there is the law and I think we all can agree what is right here regardless of what the law is. :smt055

    This is my 2 cuties:

Right on. The dog did nothing wrong. It was just being a dog. The owner, however, was being a #######.

Then let's all do what we can to save her life and help her be placed with a new owner.

What can you do? The city will do what it wants. You know that.

We can flood the city with phone calls asking them instead of putting her to sleep at least try to find her a new home. A show of force by a group people can change things.
