That may be a blessing for the student if he gets to somewhere he knows he may have to chain up he will park it and save maybe his own life or others.

My mentor did not show me but you know what? I was trained by a trainer back in the 90's who had 25 years over the road and was old school and he said if you have to use chains then what the hell are you doing out there?

Now days they act like you are some wuss if you refuse to drive in dangerous conditions with chains on. To me you are the smart one if you park it. Run with chains and the road's are already telling you hey man I am dangerous!

I could not tell you how many trucks I have seen in the median, rolled over and so on that went ahead and chained up passing by plenty of places to park until the roads improved.

My Swift mentor was one of the new breed of drivers and as bad as he was would not run with chains on. One of the only good things I can say about him.

Chains are on my truck and I will use them if I need to get to a safe place but that is as far as I will go. Every student should know how to throw chains but they should also know that they should only be used as a last resort to get them somewhere safe.

My highway hero has been OTR since '85. He has only chained up once. Single screw, pulling doubles running team with his wife. She was driving and should have been parked. He had to jump out and chain up really quick as they were out in the road and had spun to a stop!

Ok that cheered me up!!! Thank You!!

Hey you want to hear something funny? Today a new student who just went solo got a 2007 Volvo and when he went to the truck it had no front tires on it and was missing the passenger door. Shop put two tires on it but left him to put the passenger door on with them letting him use their tools. He got done with it and thought he had put the wrong door on because the passenger door window is electric but the the driver door window is a crank.

Oh my lord and they expect me to give up my truck!!!! Hes sitting by his truck right now because he had to put it back into the shop for an air leak and they said they fixed it and now it leaks worse than it did before they touched it. last night we sat in the front of his truck just chatting and he had no coolant leak and as soon as they brought it out of the shop it leaked all over the ground right directly towards where we where standing.

Now he is frustrated!!! I can verify he did not have a leak until it came out of the shop.. What is up with Lancaster?

sounds like they recruited mechanics from the go-cart dealership...and the Poulon chain saw shop down the street!

Their tools don't fit the screw heads!:biggrin_2552:
