    I have done my fair share of road tests. I have never not floated the gears during a road test. I have such a cynical attitude about trucking anymore, that my road tests are probably the only reason I get hired.

    That's thinking too hard.
    Cute... but listen to.the engine and drive the truck.
    Watching that tach and Speedo and doing all that math every 10 seconds is a disaster in the making.

    Shift from 2 to 4th and then go to 6th or 3rd ->> 5th then 6th. Depends how heavy you are.

    You can also downshift from 10 to 8 and then 6. OPs mind is probably blown away now

    Your best still learning with a manual as driving an auto will limit your skills and what happens if your truck breaks down and they bring a replacement truck out and its a manual R/R gearbox ? for that reason some companies will refuse to hire people who can not safely operate a manual gear box.
