You can rent an automatic test truck for your CDL here in Texas, which is 250 dollars. Then it's 250 for an instructor and the fuel. They will run you through the backing and take you on the actual road course. That's how my roommate got his CDL. And he's here now because nobody would hire without schooling.

I finished at C1, tested, and got my CDL. If you test in a auto, you will get restrictions on CDL. Not sure, but i doubt even Swift would take a auto restriction. Even though they are heading all autos (unless you want manual)...you will possibly get a 10 speed or whatever to start, at least that is what i have been told. Not to mention, you may get a auto at some point,...what if it has a issue and you are told to take a 10 speed somewhere....oops,...can't.
RedRover Thanks this. -

Come on guys. There are so many better options out here without going with the bottom of the bottom. Swift or any of the other bottom rung companies mentioned in this thread.
It makes 0 sense why anyone would want to start out with an absolute bottom feeder. I don't care what your background is or what you've been involved with before. There is no reason for anyone with a little bit of motivation or ambition to start out with any of these companies.
You can argue with me all you want but the reason anyone starts out with these companies is because they want to just hit the easy button.Old Iron, Jumbo, snowman_w900 and 3 others Thank this. -
And while some of us do well never having run with a trainer outside of someone showing you the route and company policies, some people do seem to need the type of teaching that can be had at the megas. -
sorry,.. but I AM NOW DONE WITH THIS THREAD!. THIS ....is supposed to be a thread about swift flatbedding, not #####ing or picking on people. I DID NOT take a easy button,... i tried TMC,maverick, melton, roehl, Prime,....in that order and they all said NO. I had a spotless driving record and no criminal record,..but one lousy termination from a factory because of points when my mom passed away. They ALL understood,... but said "sorry, we have a no termination policy". Sometimes you have to go with a starter company, get a CDL, keep your nose clean, log the miles,...and if you want, move on after 6 months or a year. At a year,...pretty much any company will take you if you stayed clean. I even got a tanker endorsement for no reason,...other than it makes me look better. NOW,...i think i'm done on here for awhile. There is ALWAYS the ones who like nothing more than to pick,... then help, or stay out of it. If you don't have an answer to someones question,...move on.

If you are aware of what you are getting into, if you know the negatives with swift, and you are willing to put up with them, if you are willing to learn everything you can from swift, as they are a training company and have some great resources, then you should do just fine. Going to swift isn't going to make someone a bad driver unless you let that happen.superscooter Thanks this. -
