Nice to see you have a positive outlook on things. I went through flatbed class in phoenix 2 years ago. You learn a few things, but id say about 90% of what i know now is from talking to other drivers.
Put this in the Swift forum, but it's relevant to this thread, for those interested, this is the current standard FB Tractor for swift. The only midroofs sitting nearby had a tag axel for another 12,000 by the looks of it, and there were two sitting around. This has the anniversary paint job, but the 16s and 15s have the same specs more or less with the standard paint job. And some of those have shorter cab extenders.
There's a mix, but this is allegedly the last year they are ordering any manuals. All 18xxxx numbers and up are supposed to be auto. They said that about the 17xxxxx too, so idk.
Is swift flatbed pretty limited on freight variations? All I've ever seen them hauling is dodge vans, a coil, the little truck and trailer they convoy for the vans, and a stepdeck always the same a tarp ed load about 2-3 ft high that stretches the bottom length, and the frames out of greer. Is it a dedicated fleet for only dedicated accounts? And what is the percentage of preloaded and secured loads
I'm not positive what all we do have, but I have seen much more than that. Rebar, pipe, vertex trusses, wood, lift gates, some kinda pipe in a wood frame, think I even saw hay once. Trailer stacks, a few different steel loads. There's a variety, and I am ccompletely new on the flatbed side, I was reefer. Some of the people on here have had more experience with the division and could tell you more possibly. But there's more than just the triangle. There are multiple dedicated fleets, but there is so much freight of ours on the triangle, it's easy to fall into that pattern. Not sure on the preloaded percentage.
OK for future would be swifties, you do the flatbed securement course after your 200 hours with a mentor. For those with experience, you go straight to the course like I did. In Phoenix, they have a bunch of sample loads set up, and you assist any driver coming in on the yard with a load or leaving with one. And choke down all the regs, odds, and ends.
