Lord willing, I'll only need one. More than likely what will give me the most trouble is the pretrip. I have always just taken the car in for an oil change. Literally never have changed my own oil. I can change a flat, jump start a dead battery and add a quart if it's low. I can check my fluids. When it comes to naming the parts of an engine or the mechanical components of a vehicle, I'm going to look very stupid. That and shifting. Never drive. A manual anything. Very much looking forward to it though. I'm quite excited.
The good news is that here in a few weeks, I might actually know why I don't want to be missing more than 1/4 of my leaf springs.

The fact you never drove a manual is a good thing, (no bad habits to break) the pre trip thing? Study, and ask. You want to know your stuffRedRover Thanks this.

I can definitely a test to that. I drove car standard for 14 years before getting my cdl. Unlearning those habits were a pain in the ###. Everyone in my school who drove stick prior had a rough time shifting. It was the guys who never drove stick before who had an easier time of it.RedRover and street beater Thank this.

My advice on the pretrip is YouTube, a guy I work with took his and was worried about the pretrip part. He said he found a guy on YouTube that said to do it like a play, just memorize your lines and recite them on test day. Instead of actually pretripping the truck just recite what they want to hear. Don't get me wrong a proper pretrip is important but not screwing up on test day is to.Lepton1, 4mer trucker, RedRover and 2 others Thank this.

X2 on this. They want "exact" terminology, say it the way they want it said.

Lol help during that next reset
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Just start with the left side of the engine as you are facing it. If you start there and just go in order as you work your way to the right.
If you can't get reps in the truck for some reason find another and practice the the pre trip.
The pre trip, backing maneuvers and shifting are all about repetition, repetition and repetition
Do that and you will be just fine. It's easier to know nothing then to learn something wrong.RedRover Thanks this. -
