You paid for CDL school out of pocket, so no reason to go with a training company. You had dozens of companies to choose from; which company did you go with?

I am a bit concerned about the camera thing. I'm going to ask them about it at orientation.
I applied at Sherman Bros by the way but then I found that thread saying they lie on your DAC.
Tough business that's for sure finding the right company. Guess we have to start somewhere.
Will have to just get used to the cameras. I could go Western Express (no cameras) but everyone here doesn't recommend them.

Here is my current concern, when first talking to the Roehl recruiter i was told that meals and hotel are not provided, thats only in the East. I said I would try to find a way to cover those costs on my own. But now that I have spent time doing some deeper research into the subject on the web, forums, and talking to folks, it seems everything I find contradicts what I was told by the recruiter. They even have a youtube video that goes through all the steps and info specifically for Phoenix terminal CDL training and guess what.... It talks about the room they provide and the meals, even down to naming the hotel and location. WTH? Ive read school reviews that are very recent, like just last month ago and a current month student, and they mention the hotel and meals in phoenix.

Now today I have received a message from the recruiter to call back for the employment offer, but this new info bothers me, a lot. I was willing to pay for it, if that what it took, but now hearing that it is payed for, the trust level just hit the floor.

They all lie on the DAC. That is no lie. Especially Swift. The trick is you have to catch them and make a stink about getting it removed before you leave the company.

Sherman used to have a good rep. in the northwest. That is the case no longer.

Hate to take on Chinatowns thing but look into these companies in the northwest.

    Central Oregon
    Levitts
    Systems
    Haney
    Gardner

I am quite sure all these companies are hiring newbies in the NW. Mind you I am not recommending them. I will tell you now, with my experience and record I would not work for them but a newbie has to take what he can get. Gardner does not have a good rep. but they offer jobs that pay by the hour which beats CPM almost all the time.

Gardner won't take anyone without experience. I tried them right out of CDL school.

Ok so rooms and meals during training aside, if you had the choice between Roehl and Swift flatbed here in the West and specifically Arizona, which would you choose and why? Need some insight :)

I don't know much of what an actual driver of either could provide you. But I'd say Roehl over Swift because they don't have driver facing cams. Give you your own hotel room during training and only spend 2 weeks with a mentor. I actually called them today and thinking about signing that contract and sticking with Roehl. From what I hear they also get you home a lot more faster than Swift ever could. Better management too.

Well unfortunately (if it's true) I have been told by the recruiter that they are not paying for room and meals for CDL training at the Phx terminal. Only for the orientation and securement training portion for those that already have their CDL. And apparently they are only hiring from a 50 mile radius from the terminal into the "get your CDL" program.

Here is an interesting tip bit i heard (for from recruiters and other employees).
Roehl's newest truck in the flatbed division is 2014, Swifts oldest truck in the flatbed division is 2014....
All trucks Swift uses in the flatbed division are Frieghtliner cascadia long wheelbase condos. all trucks Roehl uses are Prostars, midroofs. On Swift trucks tarps are stored on top of the headache rack, and Roehl stores them in Side tool boxes behind the Fuel tanks. Interesting....

    I pre
I prefer the Prostars. Mainly because of the visibility, smoother ride, and more quiet interior. The mid roof would not have as much breathing room or standing room I guess but I like the more enclosed interior. I also prefer the sidebox for storage. More easy to get to.
