True defininition of forced dispatch is you have NO say in if you take the load or not. ie you have to take the load no matter what the situation is. The only exception to forced dispatch (like most of Swifts dedicated accounts are) is HOS rules. However, even if you don't have the hours to complete or deliver the load on time you still have to take the load and get it there when you are able to legally if thats what they want done.

Nobody has asked me to run illegal. My ##### is that my DM said company drivers are forced dispatched and thats why he accepted my preplan for me. I saved it on my comm so I can keep the time frame straight when I talk to the terminal manager about him.
I already talked to the guy who helps with the dedicated. THe dedicated guy gets his drivers from this guys group mostly and he said if I am in his area to call him and he`ll keep me working while I`m there and when he has a spot open for a driver I could get it. Then I have a chance to get the dedicated. I`ve calmed down quite a bit from yesterday but still pissed that my DM basicaly doesn`t want to help me with anything and wants to send me wherever. I have home time planned for next weekend so we`ll see what happens with that. -
That all depends on the DM/Planner you get honestly. I have in the past not only been asked to run illegal but was also told if I did not run one load leaving on a Friday night (would have been illegal by about five hours) the person would make sure I would not get a load until Wed.
Any new ones reading should hold their ground when asked or told to do ANYTHING illegal or unsafe. It's YOUR butt on the line.. period. The very first thing they will say when you get caught is "Well we told him not to do it" .... Their butts are covered and yours is left sitting in the cold.
*Hint*
When told over a phone to do something illegal or unsafe, don't argue about it over the phone, you will just be wasting your breath. Just get the persons name, and get off the call. DON'T bother calling safety either, again usually just a waste of cellular minutes and breath. Just simply send a free form message on the Qualcomm detailing that so and so told you to *insert illegal or unsafe activity here* .... You will see that Qualcomm almost blow up from the responses telling you not to do the unsafe or illegal act. -
Lugnut, again I apprecieate your input but somehow this got turned into a "running illegal" post when I have not been asked to do that. My complaint, my only complaint is that my DM accepted a load for me and then said he could do that becasue company drivers are forced dispatched. I have not been asked to drive illegal.
I am however going to send a macro 22 because looking at the miles and time I have left I probably won`t make it because I`m still finishing up my 34hr restart. For the reason I`m going to put that my DM accepted load knowing I needed a 34 restart. Maybe something will come of it, probably not but at least I`ll feel better sticking it to him a little bit. -

Very true. Thanks again. Time to hit the road for a few hours now. Check back when I can to let everyone know how it goes with the terminal manager. -
Anything new develop?

Not really. I talked to my mentor about it and he checked with his DM, he`s a owner/op. She said they are kinda forced. If you don`t respond in 10-15 minutes they will accept it for you. Prretty messed up if you ask me. I`ve had some other issues with my DM recently and spoke to the Fleet Op.Manager and pretty much they are going to back him. I tried to change my DM and she wouldn`t, said we need to grow up and work out our differences. I already started working on mine, been applying other places. Only takes 1 to say yes and I`m out of here. I basically decided not to do anything about whats going on becasue after today I can see I won`t have much luck so why fight a losing battle. I`m winning by getting the experience I need to move on. THats all I can say so far.

Well, I feel for ya. Just make sure you stick it out to 6 months. You'll then no longer be considered a student by most companies. Some will still consider you a student until 1 year. As a student, they may want you to go through their academy if they have one and/or go back out with a mentor again. Also, quitting before 6 months looks bad on you as it makes it look like you aren't capable of holding a job.
Just keep it together for now and be glad you have income. At the 6 month mark, have a job lined up. -
Conway wants 3 months OTR last time I checked. They pay higher per mile.
My mentor told me this..............make sure before you quit that they know you have less than XX amount of time. You could show up at orientation and get turned down because you didn't hold the job very long.
