In one post you say there is one trip they have not paid you for and the one above you say they owe you $1,200. That is an awful high dollar amount for one trip. The situation you describe of arriving 3 days early for a live unload does not fit the description of detention (you say, retention) pay. Detention is paid when you check in at the shipper/receiver and it takes more than two hours to get you loaded or unloaded. I am not sure of the policy on breakdown pay but it may not be payable in the case of an accident, preventable or non-preventable. I believe it is paid for mechanical breakdown and is often in the form of putting you up in a hotel since you cannot stay in your truck while it is in the shop.

Again, I think you are speaking from frustration and if you speak the same way on the phone or Q/C with those you are trying to getto help you resolve the issue as you are on here, they are just going to let it go in one ear and out the other and your situation will be put on the back burner. As I said earlier, you need to take a deep breath, calm down and then give your DM a call. If you have ragged on him or her, an apology first might help get the ball rolling in the right way to get the issues resolved.

As for turnover, many people come to Swift to get that much needed one year experience to be able to go to a company that offers more of what they want. However, there are also thousands of drivers who go to Swift and drive for them for years. They like the company, the benefits and all that Swift has to offer. Is Swift for everyone? Absolutely not. But no company is for everyone. There are people who swear by a company and others who swear at that same company. If we all liked Ford's, GM and Chrysler would go out of business.

Maybe the best thing for you would to look at another company because your attitude towards Swift is so bitter at this point that you may always have problems there. Just know that you will most likely run into similar problems at other companies as well. Just read these boards and find great and terrible comments about each company. However, if you do move on, if problems arise, take a different approach next time or you will end up with the same feelings about the new company as you have with Swift and then you will want to change again. The better companies who hire after two or three years experience will be less likely to hire if they see numerous job changes in a fairly short period of time. Also, state your concerns with Swift here but don't paint it as though it is the norm for Swift because there are thousands of drivers who could claim great experiences. Let people know you had problems that did not get resolved but recognize that your bitter attitude could have been what added to the problem continuing.

I just got my first truck. It took them 10 days after I finished training to find me one, and it's just a vacation truck. The other driver gets it back in 3 days. They haven't sent me a load yet so I'll probably just sit till he comes back, too. Guess they gotta look busy.

Hey guys thanks for the info. Well I think it dosent sound to bad to do the OTR training with them. The company the school i went to was sending me to was a joke. Its Cargo Express in Boise the send you out for 4 weeks no training pay no benifits till one year just a bunch of crap. Now after the 6 weeks what kind of road test do i take?

Unless Swift has changed, I don't understand your comments that you are only going out for the 6 weeks OTR training. At least when I worked there you were hired on at Swift prior to going out with a mentor and then you were employed with them To leave at the end of the six weeks would be tantamount to quitting and could lead to a negative DAC report.

I hope you have verified this with someone other than the recruiter. Kind of like the guy who went to boot camp thinking it was summer camp and found out he was going to war. Maybe vickw who is a terminal manager and posts on here could clear this up.

The road test was easy. It all depends on who you get to test you. The guy I got basically had me do a quickie pretrip, run around the block once, made sure I could handle the vehicle, and called it good. I was out for maybe 15 minutes. There're hardass testers who'll have you out for hours, freeway, hills, full-on manual pretrip, everything. It's all luck of who's hanging out that day.

I am going out for the 6 weeks Otr Training and i will stay with swift for 6mos to a year to get some time in and then i may try to move on. So what would a company put on your DAC if you quit?
