Hello every one! I'm starting school for Swift in july out of Sacramento ca. From what i can tell, it sound like a rookie needs to humble your self, learn all you can, and be willing to drive without complaint, so this is what i plan to do! Does anyone have info or advice about the sacramento facility? I want to do thebest I can! Your insight would be much appreciated! I'v worked in the trades for 23 years as a finish carpenter, now seems like a good time to make a change before i get to OLD! So hears to starting over! God bless you all! :biggrin_25515:

Yeah thats my problem, I havent been employed under my CDL. Some of the companies around here require at least 6 months experience. Do you know of any good OTR/Reginal companies?

i'm not a swift driver nor will i ever be. why ? because i have never ever talkedto a present or previous driver who is happy there. and .26 a mile sure is low pay. think about this. for every 1000 miles you drive you just made $260 before taxes. thats bad, esp. with the expenses it takes to live on the road now days. there are starter companies that pay better than that so you might want to keep looking. from what i understand there is a guy here who works at usa and is happy and that is where started out at. think twice before going to swift.

Just so you can never say you have never talked to a former Swift driver that was happy. I enjoyed my time with Swift. I had some rough times primarily due to my attitude and when that gotten straightened out I did well. They kept me moving and kept increasing my pay.

Your statement about $0.26/mile is a little misleading. That is for the first three months. At three months it goes to $0.27/mile. At four months to $0.29/mile then $0.31 at 6 months. After 9 months it is at $0.32/mile and by the end of the first year a driver is making $0.33/mile. These figures are for west of the Mississippi River and for longest haul length. They have a sliding scale and shorter miles pay even more than this.

As for USA, there are a lot of bad comments on here about them as well. But, see, your friend proves the point many of us have tried to make. Your friend likes USA and others hate it. Some don't like Swift but thousands do (based on the number of drivers who have stayed with them for years), even if you, until today, never talked to one of them.

ok until right now on the internet i have conversed with a swift driver who is happy. on the pay, doesn't that seem really low to you ? to me it is just low even after a year at 33 a mile. thats only 330 dollars every 1000 miles before taxes and not everybody gets 2500-3000 miles a week. alot are more like 1500 to 2000 a week. personally i don't drive for less than 40 a mile and when i first started i started out at 36 (which is doable) a mile then went to 39. not sure if you still drive or not but things are more expensive than before. i used to make it on $60 a week plus a trip to wal mart for supplies. now it's more like 100-120 a week plus walmart.

I'v been interested in trucking since i was a little kid, I'm glad my home life is at a place where i can take the time to learn somthing new! I've never had benifits through a company, so that will be nice. I've driven cross-country many times on vacation and really enjoyed it, so geting paid for it will be even better.I love our country, and am excited to see as much as I can. I do take this job very seriously though. I know peoples lives could be at stake if I don't! I just want to stay busy, keep rolling, and be the best I can be for myself and my family! Semper fi !!!

I was told they weren't pull'n people from CA. guess they changed there minds:biggrin_25524:
I see you spent time in construction dead world now as for Sac it is more like Lathrope down below Stockton.
As for Swift spent some time with them 11 years ago I had no problems but that 11 years ago you will find some people here that like Swift I'm sure they can help you out.

Best of luck with your new job.
