Swift wants to put you out with a trainer if you have 6 months or less experience. Cause I had a long period between my experience they also wanted to put me with one, but I am just over the 6 months current time, so not having to. Imagine if I did the chances are I would had more experience than the trainer which is 4 year 6 months. But because of the Insurance deal they look at me a only 6 months experience.

Good luck at Swift,I hope you find Swift to be a good company. I found them to be a lousy company, but then there are a few drivers who actually stay on with them. The way I look at things is, if you are happy driving a Swift truck,God Bless You.

I just finished out of Millington, TN not the best experience, but not the worst, the only problem is large class sizes, theres 1 instructor for every 12-14 people, and they're stretched thin. They will walk everyone in your group through your range skills, but after that you are on your own. Unless you have some small amount of talent or some previous skill you'll find it a bit hard.

I drove a pretty big trailer pickup combo and did lots of backing for about a year and found it difficult. They have a pretty decent chunk of folks that have to stay for 3 weeks rather than 2. Its not a bad school, you just have to rely on your classmates alot more than you might like. I got lucky with mine. Theres 4 people Im pretty good friends with now, and they happen to be from my area :)

Then I went to Gary, IN for my road training, just got home from that. Did about 500 miles throughout the week, mix of city, interstate, and expressway driving. Lots of VERY tight right hand turns and some other odd stuff thrown in there. Very very good trainers in Gary, I got a guy named Jon Ashbe, great trainer and good guy all round. It didnt feel like training in his truck, but I learned a ton.

I go for my CDL Monday, and they're squeezing me and another guy in for Orientation on Tuesday, so we should be making money by next week.

I wasnt happy till we got to the road training, but Im starting to see sort of how Millington operates and weeds out people who shouldnt have time wasted on(theres very few but they're there)

    So thats that :)

Do they really give you a comfort zone? I'm interested in the 9-10. Anyone out there running it?

    Yes according to their website.

I am looking at either Northeast or east of the Mississippi.

If anyone is running these I would be interested in chatting with you.

Comfort zones are recruitment ######## that ends the day you get a truck. You MIGHT get lucky and get a DM who'll keep you on your half of the country but don't bank on it.

They can and WILL send you out of your zone. My very first load was out of mine. You can roll the dice and refuse the load, which may work if you have a nice dispatcher. Or they might servfail you for refusing it.

My zone was the pacific NW zone. Oregon, washington, idaho. I'm posting from Kansas now. Much good that did me :p

You might have better luck back east since there are more loads, but I can't say for sure being a westerner.

Well I went out with swift had 6 months expirience otr and 4 months in a dump truck, they sent me out for two weeks with a mentor and thats what the recruiter told me it would be. Also I was hired for midwest regional and havent left the midwest in the two months ive been solo so far. Well I take that back, they sent me to Oklahoma City once but that isnt to far outta range and they sent me back to the midwest directly after that. So far its just like any other company, the freights there they keep ya busy for the most part. Everyonce in a while you'll get a load like I got today, pick up in Inver Grove Heights MN and deliver 30 miles away cause I driver didnt want to sit on it but oh well doesnt bother me to much. Good luck for all you starting with em, just keep an open mind, keep your nose clean, and youll do just fine.

Always nice when someone thats got a good head on their shoulders talks about average/decent experience with Swift, that has actually worked for them - Keeps things positive for me :D Much better than someone whos never run with swift running them down because its fun to rip on the big guys =\. Always a pleasure hearin from you brink
