The rationale that I came down to before accepting a training position with Swift was that you are building a relationship with the company that you will be driving for from the start. I have an opportunity with a college program that several companies recruit from but they put such a high standard on classroom score if you drop below a 96% they will not hire you and your stuck without that relationship.

Anyway the relationship part was the last and deciding thing for me.

well ive been at swift a month i was told id get paid so much a mile..:biggrin_255: well i got more than i was told almost double what they said i was to start at..my advice they are a good company to go with..an as for flat bed..this is what i heard from a flatbed driver..40 cent a mile 40 dollars to tarp an the loads are 700 to 1200 mile runs..this being the first company i have been with in 13 yrs is looking better than i thought..an as for training oh i will start training drivers in 2 months maybe sooner..i have seen what some trainers release..not on my watch ..if they can pass my standards in training then i will release them not before..im sure i'll hear something from some smart ### on here so go ahead fire away cause i wont be able to read it for a month..personal preference to staying gone a month at time..in a nut shell this company is working to better its place in their field..good pay an good miles..if u r a disgruntled ex employee dont leave me anything on here for i to listened to drivers talk of how bad this place is only to find out these drivers cant keep there doors shut.. so be safe if u drive otr or local..just remember 4 wheelers have cell phones to an will use them..sometimes its justified sometimes its not...passin thru 74

Some people have good experience. I was told to clean out my truck and find my own way home. This was with doctor note and date on meds to take for x number of days and not safe to drive.

I was under load and got sick. Couldn't get ahold of the night person. Okay I didn't do my macro 22. Was feeling aweful so didn't think of it. That was my error. It does not justify telling me to bring the truck in we'll talk, then telling me to clean it out and find my own way home.

Not all trucks are equipped with opti-idle. They are real close on fuel and getting emergency fuel is a hassle. Basically if you set your opti idle to be comfortable so you sleep well so you are alert the next day, you are going to run real close on fuel.

Some terminals there will be no coffee after the morning batch is made. They ration it to "save money". What ever happened to driver morale?

At some terminals drivers were given a blank white sheet of paper. If they got one it meant to clean your truck out and find a way home. No warning at all.

Not being disgruntled x employee, just stating the facts. All companies have their good and bad. Just be sure you can deal with the bad.

This is really great stuff. I am glad to hear people talking good for a change. I am a newbie to trucking, however a professional in other fields. I am looking to go Solo OTR (long Haul) pulling anything but a flatbed. I hope to have my wife ride with me 90% of the time. I am looking at Stevens, Swift, Werner, or Schnieder. I will claim home in Houston.
Any professional advice would be great.
With Swift as a company driver.....

Can you take the truck home (Houston) ?

Can you have a rider (my wife) ?

    Do they have Peterbilts ?

Do they have training in Houston ?

Thank you for all your support...Keep up the good posts.

My advice would be to "bend over and grab your ankles" and say Please! Let the fun begin.

No sir, I don't doubt fer any seconds that Swift isn't bad in your case. However my description of what happened to me a few years ago with Swift is much different. I put that documented experience in the Welcome Wagon section titled "Hello from Florida". I have no interest in making anyone believe in what I experience. *If so then I should be a politician :p Point is, everyone can change for the better. Even those involved with my Swift experience.

I've been to terminals that do not have flat screen tv's. Of course idealy you do not want to be sitting at a terminal but sometimes you have no control. Some terminals only have chairs that are at tables.

All in all small stuff but just wanted to point that out. Readers need to know facts, and very few companies would have recliners and flat screens at every terminal so it is not just Swift.
