I see that Swift advertises some driving jobs with a terminal as a location, and some jobs in other areas that don't have terminals. The pay looks similar, but are there any differences? Are there benefits or drawbacks to have a job based at the terminal instead of another location?
Thanks!

@Moosetek13 drives/drove for Swift.

Do you have a CDL now?

No, I do not. I may decide to make a career switch, so I'm researching the prospects in trucking.Chinatown Thanks this.

How close are you to Caldwell/Burley/Boise/Nampa?

Actually, I am close to Lewiston.Chinatown Thanks this.

The reason I mentioned those 4 towns is because DOT Foods Transportation has facilities there. Wondering if you're within commuting distance.

If you get the CDL through Swift and then get a good solid year at Swift, then consider changing companies to Idaho Milk Transport.
Burley, ID Headquarters and operates terminals in Jerome, ID; Caldwell, ID

Swift is a good outfit to get the new career started. I'd try for Refrigerated Division, but if that's not available, the Dry Van is ok.

Swift has a terminal in Lewiston, ID. Nice people there and they do a lot with the paper factory there.
I'm not sure what you are talking about with the job locations. No matter where you live you will be based out of a terminal because that is where your driver leader will be. It is usually the closest terminal to where you live. A hiring area not close to a terminal might mean there is a drop lot nearby where you can park the truck, and maybe your car when you are on the road, for easy access.
I worked at Swift for 14 years. It was the first and only trucking job I had. They are a good company to work for, if you are out of a good terminal with a good DL. Lewiston is one of the good ones, as are most of the smaller terminals. Their people care more about the drivers, so it seems more like family.
During my time I was based out of Fontana, CA and Otay Mesa, CA while I lived in San Diego. After I moved to MN I switched terminals to Inver Grove Heights, MN until that terminal closed and transferred to Menasha, WI. All of them were small terminals with helpful staff and happy drivers.
That is why I stayed at Swift.
I'm not sure if Swift has a driving school out of Lewiston. If they do you may want to use it to gain your CDL.
Even going to a different area for the training could do you well.
It is good training and you will be assured of a job when you pass.
There is a cost for the training, which they gain back from you during your first year with them. Weekly pay deductions, which you will owe them even if you leave. No different than a deferred loan for an outside trucking school. But with Swift, if you stay for a second year they pay you back each month at the same rate. So if you stay for 2 years, your training is free.MACK E-6, Chinatown, lual and 1 other person Thank this.
