$59k sounds very good. Last I heard, industry standard for a good driver is in the low 50's.

Fat chance of making $75k with a lease.

Swift did have a good situation set up with the leasing company for breakdowns. If it was going to be more than 24hrs you could drive another tractor, no extra charge. If you got stuck somewhere and couldn't get to a loaner, you'd be compensated equivalent to the lease payment. Still, you'll lose drive time in the process. And since no one knows exactly when the repairs will be finished, they tend to keep you nearby, doing short runs. That was my experience.

Also the freedom to waste a lot more time worrying about/considering/dealing with all the little details.

It is possible to make more money leasing/buying a truck, but there is also the cost of time involved in the process.

As a company driver I don't worry about many details.
Get from point A to point B in a certain amount of time, and when I stop for the day I am finished.
I am free to sit back and relax, watch a few shows, cook and enjoy a good meal, get some good sleep.

Not so if I were running my own business.
Too many details to hammer out.
And that is not even with dealing with breakdowns and maintenance.
    What a headache.
