Any swift drivers have any advice? I am currently in orientation to drive local for swift. They said their mentorship program is over the road? Is that correct or can I do local for my 200 hours of behind the wheel?
i'm just acknowledging your thread, so that you know someone is reading. however, i have only heard of OTR, not local for training/mentoring.
"Never look a gift horse in the mouth." If, someday, you decide to leave Swift, other companies will accept your local driving as experience. Happens every day.
You will need to go OTR for 6-8 weeks. They cant pay a local guy enough to train you. Maybe im wrong....@Moosetek13. ?
Swift does very few local routes and it depends on your terminal. There are a number of dedicated routes that are home every couple days, but few mentors in those. You will 95% be OTR and out for at least two weeks at a time depending on what your mentor likes to do.
That is not something I have looked in to, but it seems reasonable that the time with a mentor would be mainly OTR (which would also include regional and maybe some dedicated, in my opinion).
I'm not a Swift driver, but I wonder, by local are you talking about working out of a fulfillment center or a Walmart DC? I know Swift does a lot of this. If this is so there is a good chance you can do this with a trainer/mentor! As suggested, raise your hand and ask!
Most megas will run you OTR first. They want you to see where the money is. Especially if they sell you a truck. Local miles wont pay enough to make the payments. Also if the recruiter told you something? It was only to gett you to sign on the dotted line
