I figured.
Last night at about 1800 I get to the J with no pplan. There were several Swift trucks there already.
No pplan until around 1100 today and it is a lousy load.
Get it on Saturday (or Sunday...) and deliver Monday morning near Seattle, a whole (less than) 300 miles.
But I take it.
As I was leaving the other Swifties were still sitting. But I'll bet at least a couple turned it down.
And from the sound of it they will be waiting until at least Monday morning for anything.
I would rather have a sure 300 miles than take the chance that it might be the last available load for the weekend.
(turn down a load and there will be no layover pay either...)
And there was an advantage to taking that load. It got me out of that J.
I needed laundry done, and a shower. Not to mention a little shopping.
The pick up was at the drop yard in Spokane Valley, so I dropped my mt and went shopping before picking it up.
Then I went 20 miles to the Petro for the laundry and shower.
I feel much better now.

Sometimes it works in your favor to turn down a load, I know.
Sometimes it doesn't.
Unless we have some insider info, all we can rely on is our gut feelings.
I am not privy to the bubble map, unless I want to hound my DM to death about it.
He is busy enough without me calling him about every little thing.
We have a kind of unspoken agreement. I don't call him if I can help it, and he helps me whenever he can.
If I call him more than once a week, it is a lot.
I certainly don't call asking about where freight is best, or to route me. It is very clear how freight is moving in my area just by the pplans.
I go where the wind blows me.
Always have, always will.

Do you sign up a Solo O/O 48 STATES LOOKING LOL -
Does Swift still have broker freight option or a load board

As far as I know it's by invite only and you have to be with them for 1 year before you can get on the waiting list.
antoinefinch Thanks this. -
You guys are screwing up turning down loads. Never turn down a load. Ever, unless you're dying and need a doctor. I've never turned one down in three years. What do they do when you turn one down anyway? What excuse do you use? I'm sure it doesn't put you on anyone's good list. I have two mottos. Never ever call in, only macro and only if absolutely necessary which may be once a month for me (I've gone six weeks without speaking to my DM). And never ever turn down a load. I wouldn't even know how to go about it anyway. I have no problem averaging over 12,500 miles a month solo doing this. In July I had 14,640 miles solo. I've had 21,000 mile months with a student. I imagine with far less headaches than if I was turning down loads and creating hassles. I'm serious this is not trucker ########.

I've got a lot of tricks to the swift planning trade if anybody wants them. There's ways to stay moving and it #### sure ain't running 8.5 hours a day and working off recaps. The system isn't designed for you to turn down loads and to keep you running on recap.
