Let's be real, there are very few companies that will allow a rookie to drive period! The majority are OTR or regional. I have been looking for local work in Raleigh for the last 4 weeks. I have 19 years experience but have been out of the truck for 2.5 years. Guess what, EVERY local job I have tried to get wants recent experience So don't slam others that are keeping it real, the reality is very few companies will hire ANYBODY to run local without experience. Of course there are always exceptions to every rule, however I have yet to find any here. I'm perfectly fine with hand unloading too, i dont mind busting my ### to stay home, but still nothing. I'm not saying I won't find something but I haven't had any luck yet. Its not easy to find, insurance companies dictate who these companies can hire. At this point looks like I'll be running regional and home on weekends for at least the next year. Or until I have enough recent experience to qualify for local here.
Most of us have started with OTR or regional. Either option is going to require you to be on the road a lot more than you are home.
That's reality!
