What are the odds of having to shut down for a layover or 10 hr. sleep break at the same time he'd be that close to a Swift terminal?

Those came in really handy for me earlier, with Schneider...more often than you might first think.

Also: Swift's network of available dropyards...is even more numerous...& stacks the odds for nearby company-only parking that much more.

Work smarter -- not harder...as they say.

Since he's in Texas, and starting out, Raider Express is worth a look.

Raider Express = Hazlet, TX ~ Ft Worth, TX.

Sooooo...this option poses the same basic problems (all described above) as Stevens Transport: & approx 550 miles from where the OP lives.

This is an option for sure but just know Raider drivers run 55 mph because the company believes the major profit is in the fuel. If the OP got hired at Raider then he'd park his rig at the Fort Worth yard most likely but they do have yards in Houston and San Antonio. I've talked to their drivers, no major complaints and their trainers approach a dollar a mile for all miles on the truck so they do well or so they say. It's worth a call.

Add to that the odds of actually finding a parking spot at many of those terminals/drop yards.
Many of the drop yards do not allow drivers to park there, hence the 'drop yard' designation. North Las Vegas comes to mind, back when it was only a drop yard.

But get somewhere like the L.A. area or Atlanta, you are often better off finding parking elsewhere.

Does Raider hire driver from Houston and San Antonio? Hiring area doesn't show on the website.

Yes they do, heavy freight in those areas, and the port of Galveston.
