There are a lot of factors that can figure into how many miles you average weather, location, fright, DM, account, and the biggest of all the Driver his self. You see guys all the time sitting around a terminal whining about how they don't have a load. Yet some how they cant manage to get off their duff walk up to the dispatch window and say "Hay got any locals that need done while I'm waiting on a load?". I guess their to good or something. The point being money is money doesn't matter if its a local load or long haul. Second, do a favor get a favor (just never expect one!) if you do locals for the dispatcher they will remember your name in a good way. Now for the guy who's about to point out that doing a local will burn off your HOS. Yea it will but guess what the guy who saved his hours made ZERO dollars. The one did the local run made anywhere from 60$ to 200$. Ok so now the dispatcher hooks him up with a load (because he did the local) but he doesnt have the hours. Odds are the dispatcher is not going to pull that load and give it to the other guy. Hes going to leave the one who did the locals on it and just make some calls. So the next day the driver who did the locals rolls out with a load while the first driver is still sitting at the same table pissing and moaning about how he still don't have a load.
ALLWAYS BE PROFESSIONAL!!! A few weeks ago I was in a terminal while the truck was being serviced. There was a young driver in there say mid to late 20's been driving all of six months. He was whining because his DM told him that he "needed to be more professional". His comment "I don't need to be professional, I'm a truck driver they pay me to move fright not to be professional". I laughed at him shook my head and said "Yea your going to go real far". If you PO your DM your going to have a lot of problems. I know that when someone gets an attitude with me I don't feel very inclined to help them or do anything for them for that matter.

They do monitor your heart rate while your doing the work well test. That formula is how they figure out what your max heart rate can be while your doing the tests. If you go over then you fail.
200-36X.9= 147.6 so if I was to take the tests right now my heart rate couldn't go over 148. There are things you can do to help yourself like not using caffeine or nicotine until after you have taken the BP and work well tests. -

Yes, I have been using the term as a verb for many years, but I have not yet seen it morphed into a noun as you used it until the other day--and then all of a sudden I saw it 3-4 times inside of a few days. -
well orientation is over thank god.i havent been around such trashy new hires ever in any orientation ive ever been thru.while the orientation was very good from swift's side. swifts hiring standards are still extrmely low imho. while there was some very respectable people in my group there also was total trash. 5 guys looked liked they just got out of jail total scumbags they would talk when orientation was going on laugh joke about the most stupid #### ive ever heard (only in elementary school). these were 30 to 40 something grown men.one over slept (this guy was trash sloppy beer gut the size of a truck in itself) he comes in after they pick him up. reaking of booze. and they still hired him.im doing my 6 weeks going to keep my chin up and make a living and get the experience i so need.but when i was in the drivers lounge i was looking at some of the drivers. no offense. but come on SHOWER! get your teeth fixed! put on some clean clothes! i was around drivers who reaked of body odor! come on if you cant shower right away put on some #### deodorant! they stressed in class how to keep up your apperance. guess they dont enforce that one bit. some of these guys in my class should never be on any road period let alone in a 80,000 lb moving tank.im not trying to hurt anyones feelings. just telling what in experienced from orientation. i hope i never ever see some of those guys ever again.

just wanted to share my experience. the hotel sucked. the lunches sucked even more. i felt like a piece of cattle being shuffled here and there. the worst thing like i said was the total trash in orientation. there were around 20 people in class with me. 15 were nice respectable people. 5 were total trash that i have no clue how they got a class a cdl.im sure they wont make it. but i cringe to think of these 5 on the road in a truck.
