I did that once ... My first job out of military. I jumped to another company for a 10% increase.
I was back at my old company within two weeks.

Also depends on your Driver Manager. I went through 5 in 2 years at Swift. 2 lousy ones, 2 ok, 1 real good.Moosetek13, Blue Zombie Trucker and hopeful eyes Thank this.

Why would you waste your hard earned money on a depreciating asset that you will barely get a chance to drive? Invest that money and let it work for you!firemedic2816, spindrift, Blue Zombie Trucker and 1 other person Thank this.

I have been lucky. I have had 4 Driver Managers so far. Only 1 of them was not so great. Because I didn't work so well with him, I simply had to ask to change. The other 3 have been really really good with me. My first one got promoted to Fleet Manager, so she is still involved with me. It is nice having my fleet manager being my previous driver manager. We already have a good relationship.
I do think that in many respects, regarding Swift, I have simply been really lucky. I know others do not always have as good of an experience as I have had. I also think that often, folks have other issues, attitudes and expectations that interfere. I've tried to be open, flexible and realistic with my expectations with Swift. But simply for me, so far so good!Blue Zombie Trucker and hopeful eyes Thank this. -
I need a car. Current one is almost dying.

Best deal I found on a car is at AutoNation.
Many are former rental cars with very low mileage and very low prices.
I got a fully loaded Dodge SUV that was one year old and had 18K miles for price of $19KBlue Zombie Trucker and hopeful eyes Thank this. -

By all means, buy a decent used car, not a $40,000 brand spankin' new pick up truck that will be worth $25,000 in 2 or 3 years. I have owned 2 new cars in my life, both when I was in my 20's. I am 60 now. Learned my lesson early. I always bought decent used work trucks for 5-6 thousand dollars. Drove them for 4-5 years. Always got $1500-2000 when I sold them. They MADE ME MONEY for 4-5 years in the construction business. Did my own wrenching so maintaining and repairing didn't cost me an arm and a leg. A couple sets of tires, brakes, a battery, starter, etc. Live like a miser for the next 15-20 years, invest/save your money. Don't blow it on "cool stuff" with no value. You WILL thank me in 20 yearsSirscrapntruckalot, firemedic2816, spindrift and 3 others Thank this.

And I don't think anyone is saying don't buy that $40,000 vehicle. Just don't buy it right now.
That's that whole "investing in your future" I mentioned earlier. Be smart about your money. Get a $2,000 used car that will be reliable and save your money. It's better to never pay for a loan if you can.
In 2-3 years when you start to get financially stable then start looking for a new truck, or a house, or RV, or whatever toys you want. Even then though it's better to save your money and buy what you can and not get a loan for it.hopeful eyes and Dockbumper Thank this. -
Just one mistake, and no more. I am also thinking of a Toyota Tacoma. I won't need another truck for 20 years. Tacomas last long.
