Swift question

I think a "reliable used car" in this day and age is in the $4000-8000 range.

 

I guess it depends on area. There are lots of $2,000 reliable cars around here. SUV start about 4k-5k and pickups start around 9K-10K.
That's around a 10 year vehicle w/ 150k miles on it. Older than that and the rust starts to be a problem.

 

You must be about 25 years old. Hey, get it out of your system. 6-7 years of monthly payments and full coverage car insurance for the life of the loan will cure you. $800 per month will get real old in a big hurry!

 

How much OTR are you planning to do? How often are you going to need a personal vehicle? I’m home every weekend and still barely put fifty miles on my car in a month. If I was going to live in my truck, spend multiple weeks OTR and only be out of my truck once a month or so, I’d just rent a car!

No car payment, no insurance, no worries about parking, sweet late model ride from the rental company.

 

Take some pictures, then. You’re gonna be in your big truck practically all the time.

New drivers learn quick that home time is eeeexxxxxpensive.

 

Home time? What is that?

 

I usually stay out 5 weeks, and take 2 days of hometime. Any more than that is unaffordable. My wife and I are in our 50's.

I don't have any idea how young people can succeed in this career path, unless they're doing local, or something.
