In response to someone's opinion that SWIFT isn't in the business to throw a guy to the wolves... Um... actually, YES they ARE! When I was at Marten, a new swift driver nearly backed into my grill FIVE times in a row, each attempt receiving a blast from the air horn. I got out, and spotted his trainer sitting on his stupid, ten-gallon hat wearing, hillbilly posterior in the jump seat on the phone. When your student is backing up, your feet should be on the ####### GROUND! Don't care how tired you are, you have a JOB to do. So, when I called SureWishIFinishedTraining SeeWhatIF'dupToday's safety department about their extremely crappy trainer... I essentially got told to bugger off.

Yea I failed at Swift. People can say what they want about Western Express but I love them. I am into my seventh month flatbed. Western has more in depth training because they take people that screwed up. I told them up front I was scarred of the 90 degree back and they said they will get me through it. They were not kidding. I ended up with Jose as a trainer and not only is he easy to be around but he got me over my fear of the 90 degree back. I still avoided it being solo but this morning there was no other option and I got it done with no problem. I wish I had gone with Western Express to begin with. They work on those weaknesses and make that skill stronger.
Lonesome and Valuable Asset Thank this. -
When it comes to trucking everyone is eventually thrown to the wolves. The deep end of the pool. Yes, some trainers will train you better than others. But time in that seat is what’s gonna teach you more than anything. You need to learn to rely on yourself. For an endless amount of situations that are going to come up there won’t be any trainer sitting there and you’ll have to figure it out.
. It’s literally just part of the job and break some people and some people work through it and become full-fledged truck drivers.
nobody will hold your hand as a truck driver, OP. -
