while I agree with what u are saying in theory...in most cases of practicality...it doesn't work out that way...they know how it's loaded...they know u were going to be close or over that's why they said oh we can but....gonna take awhile.....I used to be an owner of a heavy liability business and had a mentor I was talking to...one time I asked him....how am I supposed to comply with every freaking little thing and still operate my business?!?...his answer is your not.....u just do the best u can and come as reasonably close to compliance as possible and cya ie avoid situations(scales) if need be....

yes doc they hammer it into u becoz they are catering to the lowest common denominator ie assuming everyone is an idiot and most will be out of trucking in a few months anyways.....it's cya on swift side to try to get u to always scale your loads when new....I can't remember the states ....but they in your atlas...I'm just going to throw out a guess Arkansas Indiana and Mississippi......all states where as a driver u might be in a lot.....believe me I busted my but trying to get loads legal on steers and unless it's one of those three states just check your atlas and your tires...lol.....

Were you allowed on the dock while loading? Those heavy loads of rice need to be staggered to distribute the weight evenly. Don't assume they are loading that trailer correctly. If you said it's 43,000lbs on 11 pallets all in the nose that should have been a major red flag

Honestly I have been really near 12,000 in a few of those states and still got the green light at the scale....I just figured if it came down to it with the weigh master I had my cat scale ticket to reason with him if it came to that.....

This ... always jump up in the trailer and look at the pallet layout. If it is not to your satisfaction have them rework before you sign the bills.

I should have told them to move it. I saw it beforehand and figured they knew what they were doing. My mistake for sure. I sent 4 Mac 50s over the past 2 days. Scaled it 6 times.

I saw how the pallets were focused up towards the nose but I figure they do this all the time. They sealed it and then I got the bills with the weight. It was about 1000 over the plan. Next time I'll know. Usually these heavy loads they stagger the pallets a certain way also and this place didn't. Should have been a red flag too but figured they must do this all the time. Never again. It wasn't a typical dock. One of those outdoor all by itself type docks. What was getting me about that setup is that they won't load in the rain because of the rice. So had it not stopped raining I might have still been sitting there. Hopefully tomorrow I'll find out the status on the detention. If its only for the 2 extra hours I sat at the shipper I'm not going to be happy.
