Great post, Wes. I am sure it fell on deaf ears for the one to whom it was directed but hopefully others will see it as more truth then the many lies spread on this site. You sound like you were cut from the same cloth my former Terminal Manager for Swift Transportation Co was cut. He was always very helpful and went to bat for me whenever I needed help. Had similar experiences with a couple of other TM's I dealt with when there were issues at their terminals.

I did not see him signed on today, he does work out of el paso, so he is not a 3rd party. I just heard that we are cutting back on recruiting/drivers by a fair amount for a month or two. We have to many people waiting on trucks. Good luck with yourself, I would not have waited either.

well then can you answer what my position will be now that i chose to get off my mentors truck friday. I couldnt take the stress from bumping heads with him. i tried to make it work but after 4 weeks of it i had to get off his truck. the dm got me a ride home friday. i told them i am not quitting. im waiting on a new mentor. i have 2 weeks left on my training and i want to get this completed asap. so did i just shaft myself by getting off my mentor's truck? other thanj taking being yelled at like some child? yelled at for the dumbest things also.

You know I have sat here reading all the complaints "drivers" have made about how Swift operates as a company. I have a great Driver Manager who has told me constantly over the phone to not accept a load if I can't make the pick up or delivery time. I have also been told that if I accept a load and the shipper delays me, to send in the appropriate Macro so the CSR can contact the Cosignee to inform them the shipment will be late due to shipper delay's. You all need to stop finding reason to deter people from going to ANY OTR company out there. All companies have their issues and when you really think about it, your time with a company is what you make of it. If you decide to decline a load because you don't feel like driving where all the snow is, then decline the load, but don't sit there and jump on this forum making up stories that your company's DM, FM, and TM are telling you to run illegal. I don't buy that for one minute. I've had it happen once and immediately sent an OPEN message over QualComm addressing the issue that I couldn't make the load. You know what happened, they didn't continue to tell me to run illegal. They did what they are suppose to do and had another driver who had the hours to make the delivery. Stop with all the lies!

Liz, you may have legitimate concerns but you don't accuse Wes of sugar-coating things. He seems to do all he can to be helpful here and is probably stating the facts more clearly than you or others may wish to accept. I don't know what or how many terminals yiour husband had to deal with while there but I know I had the opportunity to deal with Swift to deal with several different terminals and found most to have terminal managers as helpful as Wes appears to be. I don't know about your husbands DM but all the ones at my home terminal had been drivers. Now the planners, that was a different story. I know this is after the fact but if your husband had such problems with the DM he should have pressed for a new one.

Well said, Martinez. My experience was the same. The open message or a call to safety can fix any attempt by anyone to direct a driver to be illegal. The open message is the best because everyone can read that.

    Wes,

I couldn't have said it any better.

Now for everyone else. Wes is right. A driver can drive well close to 3000 miles within their 70hrs/8day rules. The most I ran, and I'm a Solo driver, was 3,300 miles. I would love to work for Wes out of the Houston Terminal, but I reside in Los Angeles and work out of Fontana.
