Swift actually has a good training program when it comes to backing. So I for one can not understand why Swift drivers have a hard time backing.
I don't believe it's Swifts fault for these people not taking the time to ask questions and practicing their backing maneuvers.
If these people backed their truck successfully during the road test then they should know how to back when on the road and aren't taking the time it takes to safely perform the task at hand.
At which point I would only hope that another professional driver would catch this in time and stop whom ever is driving and possibly help them out. Then if need be report them to Swift.
Just my 2 cents. -
does anyone know what is happening with the class action suite with swift from former employes?
I read about it and then did'nt hear anything more. -
The only class action that I am aware of is the one out of Los Angeles, Ca. (Del Razo v. Swift Transportation Co., Inc., Case No. BC 264103).
On February 4, 2002, a class action lawsuit was filed against Swift in the Los Angeles Superior Court by former driver Eric Del Razo ("Del Razo").
The claim made in the Complaint was that Swift allegedly did not comply with
Labor Code sections 201 and 202 providing that employees who are involuntarily terminated from employment must be paid their final pay check
immediately upon termination, and providing that employees who voluntarily resigned their employment must be paid immediately upon their
resignation if they gave 72 or more hours notice of their resignation, or within 72 hours if they did not give such notice. Del Razo claims, as part
of his case, that if Swift failed to timely pay accrued vacation, that also constitutes a failure to comply with Labor Code sections 201 and 202.
THE PROPOSED SETTLEMENT
Swift has agreed to pay a total amount of $1.2 million, inclusive of all costs of administration of the Settlement, payments to Class Members, a named plaintiff
enhancement (if any), and attorneys' fees and costs, to resolve the claims, as stated in the release provisions of the Stipulation of Settlement and summarized
below. The following is a summary of the Settlement provisions. The specific and complete terms of the proposed Settlement are stated in the Stipulation of
Settlement, a copy of which is on file with the clerk of the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Los Angeles, California.
Claims had to be filed by 6/1/04

-
i agree we r the professionals and we are supposed to know our surroundings on the road at all times, but this driver states that they were not ready to go otr alone so swift has to share the blame as well.

I wanted to let this post go and not say anything about it. You admitted you were a rookie, and still are, hell after 6 yrs im still a rookie compared to most. You may have hit a few docks dead on , But to say that this early in your career is just plain ####Y and askin for trouble IMO. By know im sure you know that all docks are not at some big wide open D.C. and all truck stops are not as big as the Petro in Sparks. And again you were way too ####Y in saying that you know how not to get into a situation...I got some bad news for you Cowboy... There are situations on the road that you dont have a chance to think about, let alone enough time to react and your in the middle of it in the blink of an eye. May be just a case of some 4-wheeler seeing something off in the trees that they just gotta hit and it gets you tangled up in the process. Get some winter miles under your belt before you make a comment like that.
Now on topic: If you for 1 second believe Swift has you and your familys best interest in mind, Its gonna be a sad day when they hang you out to dry because someone else can do your job cheaper. Swift as a company could give a rats #$$ whether or not you succeed. There may be individuals within the company that care for you, but remember the top of that food chain ends in PHX, and they as in Jerry and his group of cronies are all about their bottom line not yours
They WILL lie on your DAC, I can say that because it happened to me after working for those scumbags from 4/02- 4/03 exactly one year to the day I quit and found greener grass elsewhere (more money and actually treated like a person and not a 2nd class citizen or number as it it referred to in trucking) Anyway back to what I was saying. I got a letter from the Unemployment office that said basically dont try to file for unemployment because it will be denied( had no need for unemployment I had a new job before I put in my 2 week notice) They were notified by letter from Swift that I had been terminated for a violation of the company drug-policy. So Im thinking WTF
? The last time I has a drug test was 7/02 while at the Eden NC yard they took me and 2 others for randoms. I call my DM I had, she stated that it was a "mix-up" that should have been put on someother drivers DAC and not mine. A few days later they supposedly went to correct it, but they instead put down I had been terminated for lying on my application
. The idiots did'nt even have the common sense to take off the first entry. So at that time I had 2 negative entries on my DAC stating I had been fired for 2 unrelated reasons. It finally got cleared up after 9 months of going back and forth with the Driver Retention Rep in PHX who I might add is full of $#!+, he ask me why I had originally quit and I had told him that being shorted on paid miles was my number 1 reason and then there were other smaller things, This guy tells me that Swift pays all of their drivers for ALL of the miles they drive and he had never heard of any company having the practice of paying short miles...What a load of B.S.
Bottom line SWIFT SUCKS, and if they are your only choice, or you feel the immediate need to take it in the shorts, find a buddy to go there with you that way you dont feel like you got screwed alone!Last edited: Oct 31, 2008
