Swift Training

I think all the new trucks are auto's.
I don't mind that. My left knee could use a break sometimes.

I don't like the 24/7 driver facing cameras or the radar system.

Will it make me quit?
No.
Many other companies are going to the same tech. And like e-logs it may be mandated before too long.

The thing that will make me quit driving is when I'll be required to drive in a train (platoon, 'smart truck') kind of thing where I am a controlling truck with others following me controlled by a computer.
Even worse, being in a following truck 20 feet from the bumper of another truck.
I hate being tailgated, and I hate even worse to follow too closely. It would stress me out way too much to be forced into both situations at the same time, under the control of a CPU and sensors that could fail at any instant.

 

Lol but what could be worse than Swift? Just curious.

This is the 2nd time I have read a comment saying students are under no obligation to dive for Swift but I still find this hard to believe. I know they train through a separate entity (Swift Academy) but this scenario just does not sound right. This is like me taking my brown bag lunch into McDonald's, eating my meal at their table, then leaving. I might have to read something like this 10 times before I buy into it, but does anyone else think this sounds right?

 

13th Amendment ... you're under no obligation to drive for any company that trains you.

You will be under a financial obligation to pay back the loan you sign for on the first day of training.

 

Got a friend who is an O/O (his truck is payed off lol) Mentor, they changed the 240 hours to 200.
Guess 240 hours was too much?

I talked to a Swift Driver, a week ago in Eloy. She had a New Truck but no Camera (yet?).
Guess they're slow installing them.
Well not like they're 'fast' at much of anything...especially the Shop...If you guys thought the Trucks were slow...You haven't been to a Swift Shop yet.

I know Swift gets bashed a lot on this forum but I've heard they actually have a solid training program. If their course is still $3900, that might be one of the better deals out there, especially if you can go to another company.

 

Well I hope you never appear in any 'YouTube Trading Paint' videos. There seem to be quite a few involving Swift drivers.

What was your impression of the course there?
