A friend I met at Swift orientation, who had no prior experience at all, was a trainer 6 months later. That would scare the heck out of me. And I was scared enough already....
During my short Swift career (just under a year) I found that some of the terminals have good, conscientious mechanics and others don't. My home terminal didn't care. You could sit for an entire day just to get a tire. But other terminals would get you in and out quickly and do a great job. It's just the luck of the draw, I guess.
My problem was driving sometimes at night, sometimes during the day, and never having a healthy "body rhythm," with balanced sleeping and waking periods. Fatigue was incredible, inviting accidents.
If I even get a truck again, I'll only accept work that won't have me sleeping at night one day and sleeping during the day the next.
I hope the citrus haulers are hiring... drive only here in the South, only during the day (hopefully).
I ended up quitting because my last several paychecks were not even enough to pay for my share of the company health insurance. I had almost no money to pay bills, and I lived on peanut butter sandwiches and bottled water for weeks at a time.
I actually lost money in the last four months of working for Swift. All I got for being away from my family was enough money to pay for the peanut butter, bread, and water to live on so my family could pay some bills (but not all).
They haul a lot of freight, but there it also depends on where you are. Sometimes you get stuck with no freight (so no income) for a few days at a time in some little corner of the country while other guys are working their butts off. Too much left to chance at Swift, in my opinion. Unless you can get a dedicated route (and I was told I'd have to drive for two years OTR before I could be eligible for that - yet other drivers from my own terminal got dedicated runs in a few months), it's completely random.slabrunner Thanks this. -

Air pressure of 110 is not emergency low, clarify your statement?
Where is Swift going to have CSA 2010 problems.
Accidents is not a big factor in CSA 2010.
Our equipment is newer.
We are not forced to run illegal.
Strict drug/alcohol policy.

26c a mile surprise you?
Obviously reading your message, if you are too picky on deciding when to drive, you deserve no freight ty. -

2/3. CSA 2010 will effect Swift in every way...citations from drivers being over weight, log violations, and yes accidents will GROSSLY effect the score. You should read more about the CSA issue..you seem to be ill-informed
4. Age of equipment doesn't mean squat...evidently you havn't noticed how many "new" Volvo's (and any other brand) have electrical problems and mechanical problems...might have something to with being assembled south of the border(?)
5. Uh huh...thats why I got pulled into a "random" test 5 times in 6 weeks...system is far from "random", they establish a list of "clean" drivers and doctor the random checked figures....yeah, real strict!
Last point...some people can't alter their sleeping rhythm cycles, perhaps they shouldn't be OTR, but local day job would be fine....quite the critic aren't you?Lugnut1968, zentrucking and chew6229 Thank this. -
DOT accidents, not all accidents are CSA 2010 reportable. Log violations scanned to company not CSA 2010 reportable. Most of our drivers not running 2/3 log books, and have it up to date for weight station. Overweight violations, well I suppose I if we have drivers that don't feel spending $9 is not worth it then so be it.
Informed, yes. I listen to Landline now when I can and Americas trucking network at night.
I might have 7 points when CSA 2010 is ready as of now. Not in danger of getting fired. -

Or you might be a step closer to being let go. When this shakes out they will probably look at all drivers points and start weeding out people. If they are stock piling drivers they can cull the herd when the time comes. Myself I wouldn't want any points as if something were to happen I would find myself much more marketable to other companies. Maybe even find a better job? HMMMMMM.
