I've been out about 2 or 3 years longer (17.5 years) and Swift wanted me to go through their school. I only checked with them out of desperation and the fact that I live 30 miles from their Springfield, MO. terminal. They clearly told me they would not even take me with a refresher course.

I don't know how far you have to travel but I would be careful. I would be surprised if they didn't make you go through their school, complete with the high pricetag and/or the long term commitment. Schneider was the only big company I could find that would take me with a refresher and a short training time.

I know I have read of several drivers getting on with smaller companies and that is what I'm still looking for. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them with us. Also please keep us updated on whether you get on with just a road test. I hate to be negative but after many hours of research I have not heard of this happening with a mega-carrier. They make far too much profit from their training programs to allow this to happen.

When it comes to swift I always remember my dad telling me when I was young and riding with him in his rig. SWIFT- Slow wagon in fast traffic. As far as the pot use clean up before attending and don't do that crap when you get the job.

I sure wish people would learn more about "POT"...
Just because a person has asked about a drug testing policy does not mean that person is a full-fledged drug head. I don't believe and never have believed that "POT" is a gateway drug. If a person has an addivtive personality they may do drugs or alcohol or both. That doesn not mean they do EVERY drug on the planet and it darn sure don't mean the person is a bad person by any means. It is called control, discipline and some have that. I am in the Military, under DOD and also I am under DOT...I get it from both sides. The Military and Driving Truck is very important to me and I am sure the OP feels the same about things in his life.

Well, not only did he ask....he admitted he has to get clean first. Whether anyone likes it or not, pot is illegal...nothing more to learn. Good people dont do illegal activities. I also can not remember anyone asking about drug testing policies who were clean and just curious....not saying it has not ever happened. Half-fledged or full- fledged, a drug user is a drug user.

There is some paperwork you have to fill out, and there is a $30 per month charge for insurance.

I just sent the paperwork for my daughter to fill out so she can ride with me during her summer break. As soon as she can fax it in to Swift I'll get her on the truck with me.
