Do you have the option of standard or manual tractors?
Do they ask you which one you feel more comfortable in?
Do they train you on both?
If you fail your driven test when can you take it again?

I am not absolutely sure, but I believe they do not have automatic transmissions. IF you are planning on attending school you will learn the manual transmission they use in their trucks. I do not know about the driving test portion but I am sure someone else will answer your question.

There are a few automatics in the fleet, very few. If you go to Swift School in San Antonio you will be trained on standard only. When you test out in Lancaster, again, standard only. So if I were you, I would try to get proficient at shifting gears if you want to work for Swift. Sorry I can't answer your 4th question. Good luck!

It really is no big deal. In my class nearly 6 years ago there was a guy a little older than you who had never used a standard. It took some time and practise but he made it through and passed his CDL road test the first time out. We trained in 8 speed trannys. When he got his mentor after orientation his first question was "How many gears in your truck?" The mentor told him "18" (he drove a W-9), my friend nearly fainted! He drove for Swift for about 3 years before getting a local job.
