Hello Everyone,
I have been considering a move to the trucking industry for a while and would like to get any feedback. I, like most, do not have the extra $3k-$5k to plunk down on a school. Thus I am going to have to go the route of a large trucking company with a school. In my situation the Swift terminal in lewiston, Idaho offers me the best opportunity as far as geographic location. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback and can offer me realistic insight into what to expect. I'm interested in what to expect for pay, how is their payroll, once I'm trained is it realistic to expect my own truck immediately, is it difficult to get a dedicated or regional run, will I have to go OTR for a while? Any information would be much appreciated. I know that starting anything requires a person to pay their dues. I am just looking for a realistic view of what things will be like once I am working. I have also read some posts where drivers, once completing training, have been left waiting for a truck to go to work. Is that true? Again any information would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Shamusmgee

Ok lets be real here . YOU will be OTR you will be on a low pay scale maybe 28 cents a mile, you will have to do your time with a trainer that more times than not your not gonna like ! dedicated or regionals take time and effort. yes sometimes you do have to wait for a truck. I spent time with Swift and got a truck the day I completed training. now realistically these are the same for every Mega Carrier out there ! they all use the same template and if read a few posts on here you'll see that I am giving it to ya straight. Good luck and enjoy the drive its a lot of work, but it will be worth it one day, but like anything it just takes time and effort.
