I always tell mechanics. If you have something more serious than my truck, take care of theirs then get to mine.

Not me. I'm not that nice. I'll wait a reasonable amount of time. Reasonable meaning get me in the shop within a couple of hours of when you say you will.

As far as Swift shops, I must be "their" driver almost everywhere I go. Generally speaking, they get this one back on the road in fairly short order. And usually, it's fixed right, too. But then, again, I don't just sit around the drivers' lounge waiting to be called. I'm in the shop about every hour. And I'm not nasty about it.

It's amazing what a little good natured banter and being present can do for your cause. They are used to dealing with cranky drivers. The crankier the driver, the less likely to finish your job quickly. Mechanics know you can't make money when your truck is down. You go on ahead and be a jackarse to them and see how quickly they are willing to get you done.

Of course, I'm not above going to the boss, either. I'll do whatever it takes to get my stuff done.

I take candy to the mechanics every few weeks. They like the taffy from TA. So I buy them a big bag. I also talk to them, ask about their family, kids etc. I think it makes a big difference with your home terminal mechanics.

Fine point Injun. I hung around the shop and showed an active (but friendly) interest in the repairs. This made friends with the mechs and floor supervisors.

I only got mean once. A guy had replaced the trailer tire, was back on truck but not tightened down and decided it was time for lunch... on a load that was already tight. The resulting rear end chewing earned me the nickname of Sarge.....

Yeah... but Swift PAYS us to run slow... that way OldNEW, et al can feel good about themselves! LOL!!!

    :biggrin_25512:

Mostly only matters when you're being paid by the mile. On percentage, the slower you go the lower the fuel bill - and the more Ka-Ching$$$ in my pocket.
