Yeah equipment prices are up in this hot freight market, but much of the cost difference can probably be recouped thru the higher rates.

What is the upside to letting it run that long , other than saving money on oil changes ?

Less downtime equals more miles. Also 70% less waste generated.

All I know is the fleet I'm leased to holds onto equipment when the market is down and when they start trading and sending trucks to auction it means things are on the upswing .

How much downtime are you going to have when u need ur engine rebuilt before 500k miles? Let me rephrase.. There is no upside, only excess risk to be taken with 0 reward... the only reason the mega fleets do 50k oil changes is because it saves them a #### ton of money across thousands of trucks and in the end they get rid of them before any major problems will rear their ugly head... but as was said before the 2nd owner will be the one dealing with this.

Well I've got 700k on mine and it still runs like a champ, and the samples still come back fine.

I do it on any truck I drive, actually need to replace the cable to the throttle lock on my uncles 89 I use as my spare as well, pain in the ### trying to shove a hammer behind the brake pedal without going to high or low.

50+k mile pms are for bean counters, that’s it, oil is cheap, grease is cheap, I can do grease/oil/filter/brake/ in 3 hours, another 3-4 with the pressure washer and still drink beer all afternoon, if you want to throw the trucks away every 5 years then it’s fine, I personally would rather just bring my costs down so I can work less

I've often wondered if these extended drain intervals contributed to the infamous cam issues with the ISX?

I've got an old A-block Kitty apart in the shop right now. Far as I can piece together from 2 of the 3 previous owners, the crank and cam are still original. I just had them polished and I have no qualms in reusing them. I attribute a lot of that to the fact they actually changed oil regularly back in the 80s and 90s.

    bzinger and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

I used to maintain my dad's iron when I was in my teens. Full steam clean and grease job every weekend. I can count on 1 hand the number of trips he lost due to breakdowns over the span he owned each truck. $8 worth of grease and a couple hours of time each weekend sure make a difference.
