Swift vs USA need advice.

From what I have heard Swift would be the better choice between those two.

 

Good luck man! Just remember this.... no matter what happens, you need to look at it as paying dues, getting experience, and keeping your nose clean. Build you credentials. Over time, some very good opportunities will open up and you will be happy. Keep you eye on the big picture.

A good motivator is to look at the better company driver requirements, pay, hometime and benefits. Many are not on this forum. Just use the information right now to set your goals. Just like most careers out there.

 

Almost identical!

Hailing from Cleveland...with Swift you will be situated almost dead center from 3 terminals...Gary, IN; Columbus, OH; and Jonestown, PA. Of the 3 I would choose Columbus as a base terminal...unless you want to try flatbed, then Gary will be your only option...and flatbed Mentors are prone to be a long wait to get assigned to one. Home time out of Columbus should be easy enough...Columbus has a good dedicated Sears account and the loads to Cleveland (and points close to Cleveland) are regular.

 

Swift way better equipment and mileage is better if you want to run ! Make sure you get to know your DM and find out how he likes to communicate and you will be good to go. Mine was like don't call me unless you need help. otherwise it will come by qualcomm that was great for me. and when I did call he always took my call even when he was at home and he would get me answer asap. I would go back today in a minute if I could .

 

Columbus is a good terminal, good people, large, busy. If flatbed is your preference, then Gary is an option. Gary is a bit of a dive last I was there, but the training staff there is top notch and the flatbed instructor also drives flatbed there locally so he's not just a book instructor.

An acquaintance of mine went through USA driving school and had an absolutely horrible go at it with USA, but since I haven't had the personal experience, I'd have to defer. I only know if you're willing to run, then the miles are what's going to make the difference and then there's the flexibility.

USA Truck - Vans only
Swift - Van, Flatbed, Intermodal, tanker and reefers

Swift has many dedicated accounts and trailers for the customer, so if you want to do like I did (Flatbed, Van and Intermodal) then there is really only one choice.

If you only want to drive van, then you have to make a choice, but if you want to drive more than van, your choice is made for you.

Almost forgot, if you go Flatbed, if freight gets slow, you get van loads, so you aren't going to sit because of limited ability. Just an additional thought for you to think about.
