I spoke with a recruiter from Swift sometime last week and was told that swift stopped hiring indefinitely. He told me to check back in the beginning of June. Has anyone else run into this?

I resemble that remark! -
Really? A swift recruiter told you that? I know they've got classes running now. What was your recruiter's name?
Unless it was experienced drivers? They're currently only hiring newbes and VERY RARE rehires and experienced.
I'll try to check though. -

I'll say for anyone looking to get in to trucking. If your currently employed, making decent money, good benefits, home every night, then stay with it.. Right now trucking is not the business to get in to. Even if it is something you really wanted to do all your life. Don't do it just yet, wait until the economy improves before making that leap.. There have been plenty of people who quit good paying jobs, because they always wanted to drive truck and see the country. Reality is your going to see more docks, then your going to see everything else. Sure if your single and have no family you might be able to take your days off at a place you choose, but most of the time only if your load takes you in that direction, or you fly, or drive out that way..
I got in to trucking because of being unemployed, need a job to support the family. I was unable to find a job in my industry (paper) at the time as it was going down hill. Plus my benefits were running out. And the government would only allow $3000 towards training, and trucking driving school was the cheapest.. Do I regret getting in to the industry? some time yes, sometimes no, but my current job (local) home every night and most weekends..
