At ive seen a lot of your utube videos and researched a lot of things on this forum and i my self have decided to go with swift and start their school in early august and doing so because i think swift gives me my best chance in this industry and i used to have a lot of resect for you because you were young and was very humble to have the chance of doing something you wanted to do all your life -i myself had a mother that drove a autocar and father and a brother and several uncles that were truck drivers but i took another path early in life but now have that pull for the open road at 58 years old so were all in this together and on the road together because someday that picture might be you.so please chill and be safe from the newb ol'guy.

if swift was able to stop in time, the passenger vehicle behind him should of also...
cant prevent people from tailgating you and hitting you when you need to slow down. -
"Outbraked by a semi-truck on the interstate"
Here is your sign.
dixiedeadlight Thanks this. -
Yes you can prevent someone from tailgating you. If Swift was checking their mirrors properly they would have seen the tailgater, slowed down enough for tailgater to either back off or pass, and then resumed previous speed.
Was this accident preventable? Yes. Protect you safety cushion. -
Honestly, I really don't care how close some idiot is following me. That's what that heavy steel bumper is for. Not my problem.

Of course it's Swift's fault. We know there's no way he could have come to a stop that far behind the van. He must have hit the black Chevy when he was backing up to make enough room to get around the obstruction in the road.
Injun and dixiedeadlight Thank this. -
So. In your infinite wisdom, please tell me how to control someone following at the proscribed 2 seconds he or she was taught in Basic Driver Ed, but allowing a distraction such as texting, holding the phone up to the head yapping, changing the radio station or whatever. They are following at the distance generally accepted as adequate. Are you going to slow down so they can pass you just so you can blow the horn and motion them to hang up the phone? You go on ahead and do that. Make sure you keep a tally of the number of "birdies" you collect along the way.dixiedeadlight Thanks this. -

If I slowed down for everyone that tailgated me, it would be tomorrow before I arrived where I should have been yesterday....
sal Thanks this.
