There was another post on here recently asking almost the same thing. I believe what was said there was that you are better off waiting for your mentor and 'doing your time' at Swift. Just be sure you keep your nose clean and do what you can to make it through your time without any problems so you will be able to find another job without any problems. I would recommend you wait at least 6 months before changing jobs, as most companies will want at least that much experience before hiring you -- actually, most reputable companies will want 1 year experience. If you have some idea of which company you would prefer to go with, talk to them and find out how much experience they will require from you. If you go to some companies after 3 months, they may put you with one of their trainers for a short time to make sure you are up to snuff before they put you in a truck by yourself. Like I said, it depends on the company you want to go with. One other thing, when you do decide to leave Swift, make sure you cover yourself (and your DAC) by doing things right. Turn the truck in at the proper terminal -- I would not tell them that you are leaving until you are ready to turn the truck in. Make sure you have it clean and take pictures if possible to prove the condition it was in when you returned it. If possible, have someone at the company sign something saying that you returned the truck and all their property in good condition. I have read stories of people who have told the company they are going to leave and have been 'removed' from the truck miles from a terminal and forced to find their own way home. Then they find out that the company has put 'abandonment' on their DAC report and charged them a fee for recovering the truck. Just be cautious and CYA!
Best of luck to you. -
