I just got a Wilson 5000 mag, mount. Initially I was reading 1.5 on 40, but nothing{ O} on 1...I adjusted to { {O } on one, and forty...I realize you are not supposed to exceed 1.5, but is zero a perfect setting ? I don't have much air traffic here, so hard to know if I am getting out good.. I am running a Galaxy 949...Ed

I believe I would use that 5000 as it is and feel blessed. Your SWR level for all practical purposes is great.

If you are more of a perfectionist than I am, then you could trim a quarter-inch off the tip and probably the 1.5 on 40 would go down a little bit and the needle on 1 would go up a little bit. Theoretically, when 1 and 40 are balanced, then 20 should be about in between the two and the antenna is about as good as it's going to get given the ground plane it is on.

With the mag mount, you could also move it a little bit to another position on the vehicle to see what the SWR does. The best place is generally smack in the center of the roof.

It has everything to do with performance. It piteralit tells you how much power is being returned unsent from the antenna.

Exactly...BUT your resistances, impedences and resonance can still be wayyy off offering poor performance

Don't use dollar store coax and mount it high and you should be alright.

See the ant in this pic...He claims to get out and hear all across the usa...
Claims his swr is good which is why he gets out...

What he didnt say is that he getshis results with 1800 watt amp thats always gettin repaired cause it burns out..
Why?? Cause the measurements i mentioned AND a ton of reflect so now tell me how swr is all that and a bag of chips....

Oh and w/o the amo only 7/8 miles..

Good for them. Wouldn't be a problem if they ran legal power.
