Arrive in Albert Lea Mn on Friday around noon and temperature is + 5 degrees F, by Saturday noon temperature is in the high 30' s and things are thawing out. I leave truck stop to go make delivery and 20 miles down the road, in an instance, my cb loses all static, I mean complete silence, only noise was electrical/engine with anl/nb turned off. So I check swr and its reading 4+ so I switch antennas, same result, so when I get docked at receiver I removed antenna mounts/ studs ( Im in a 2019 T680) and there is alot of moisture , so I clean and dry them and the washer and the threaded portion that they screw onto, put antennas back on, same result high swr. This morning swr was still high, so I check studs again , because is was in 20's last night, and I noticed ice around and in between washer and mount, so once again clean and wipe dry, no luck, same result. I guess next I need to remove the 2 plates that cover the mount and coax and see if I can see any problem there, or check the pl259 end that plugs into radio. My first thought was something happen with the extreme temperature changes but now Im in Missouri and it was 60 degrees F this afternoon and nothing changed for the better, so I just use cb now as a receiver, because I can still hear, both drivers and weather channels. Anyone have any thoughts, would appreciate it.
Swr issue,what else is new.

Looking at the connecter that plugs into the radio, since antenna system is cophased, the 2 seperate RG 59 coax are connected to the 259 connector, but they shrink wrap around and I cant see how the 2 coax are secured into the 259, dont really want to remove wrap and have it come apart, Im sure someone knows how they are held in place.

You most likely got water in the coax if your coax is exposed. I have a bunch of trucks with the same issue thanks to the weather.
jessejamesdallas Thanks this. -
Thanks Ridge, is there a remedy short of replacing coax, its factory and really not at liberty to start messing with it, being its a company truck.

OK, I just was out in my pickup and I am using N connectors and found water in the one on the screwdriver antenna. the bitter cold contracted a lot of plastic and when it warmed up with 100% humidity, a lot of things have issues.
Just a side note about cold weather, I have a kitchen drain against the outside wall. This is a relatively new house and very well insulated.
When it got to -19 one night with the wind blowing against that wall, both the vent and drain froze up. The vent is now unplugged but the drain is a problem and I have to take the sink drain apart and clean it out, I don't know what's plugging it up but even super hot (250 degree liquids) are not going anywhere and I didn't put a clean-out plug above the trap like everything else has on the house so I have to take out the drain by cutting it, replace everything I take out to get it fixed and add a clean-out so next time I won't have this issue.jessejamesdallas and wolverine11 Thank this. -
Well I just stopped in Tennesee and checked swr and its back to normal 1.2 so what ever the cause was( probably water like Ridge suggested) is no longer a problem. You dont realize how much you sometimes talk on the cb when for 3 days you refrain from using it.jessejamesdallas Thanks this.

DX Engineering Coax Seal Kit.
Have a look at components. See topic on eHam and elsewhere.
End result done right is one can slit open like a casing.
Drip loops also on coax.wolverine11 Thanks this. -
You mean it was peaceful out of north central Florida last couple days?

Was up in MN, heading south to home base in Florida, swr back up to 4.0+ , dont know whats going.

Ok final post in the ongoing saga, that is Wolverines swr issue, Im sure you are all pretty bored with it by now, I know Im fed up with it. Finally back in Florida yard with some spare time, removed both plates on mirror arm that conceal mount and coax and there is quite a bit of white stuff , probably corrosion Im guessing , on the mount that the coax attaches to, and most of it was between that piece and where it makes contact with the plate. So I cleaned both of them real good and with a knife scraped off the black powder ( paint) on the underside of the plates where the mount makes contact( Robert @ Clays recommended this a while back) put it all back together and swr is 1.2 and receive is good again, Im hearing usual base stations 15+ miles away in Plant City. Doesnt appear that this condition was caused by artic blast, but looks like its been accumulating over time and is something that is going to need regular maintenance. Thanks for everyones attention, Im Out!slim6596, Meteorgray and Slowmover1 Thank this.
