On closer inspection, not so sure it was corrosion, like you would see on a car battery post, it looked more like the sodium chloride they treat the roads with that had accumulated and dried, dont know how it would of made its way in to the mount because the plate is pretty secure with 4 allen screws. You are probably right about the cold being the trigger though, but at least now having removed the plates and actually seeing the mount asembly, I am no longer concerned about damaging the mount with too much weight, and even if it did break it would be simple to replace, not that parts are anything special, thanks again Ridge, think I will ask to stay south for while until spring.Last edited: Feb 5, 2019

I would coat the problem area with some type of grease to keep the corrosion down.

The items to have for antennas (the general package). Or, what items I moved from an RV bag to mobile install:
1). JETLUBE SS-31 Anti-seize Compound
2). Burndy “Penetrox” A8 Joint Compound
3). Dow Corning #4 Insulating Compound
(Di-electric Grease)
#3 is what’s wanted here.
.Meteorgray and wolverine11 Thank this. -
Thanks, I will be home for a couple of days, will run by ACE and see if they have it.Last edited: Feb 6, 2019

Recommended those as they’re top shelf. Since so little of any goes such a long ways (lasts years or decades), the effort for “best” worth the trouble.
GRAINGER or GRAYBAR or similar may have. Check online.wolverine11 Thanks this.
